Yeah that was an awesome costume.

And hey, there's the Toad himself, as the principal with the Groucho nose/glasses on! Guess he did make his way out of Vietnam after all.

So, overall, I still dig the flick. It's cheesy, stupid, low on gore count, and a tad too long... but I think I see what Smith was trying to do with it. It looks to me like he was trying to make a Carpenter-type "respectable" horror film with then-timely subject matter and not just your average low-budget slasher flick. I imagine the budget probably was low for this, but it doesn't show - the movie looks good when seen in the proper AR, is well-shot and directed, and the effects aren't really mostly any cheesier than other stuff of its day.
I can't imagine why the music rights couldn't be worked out when Anchor Bay tried to release the SE DVD since I'm sure Fastway isn't in high demand these days. Maybe Shout Factory should give it a shot. It definitely deserves better treatment than it's seen on home video in the modern age. It woulda been cool to see what extras AB had planned for the cancelled 20th Anniversary DVD.

Oh I loved the movie, but I am an easy to please drunk who loves 80's cheese. BTW, for 00's cheese Bubba ho-tep is still satisfying if hard to do "reaction posts" to when you've seen it over 100 times.

FWIW, the correct-aspect-ratio version I found was on TPB. Cinemageddon seems to only have the 4x3 Platinum DVD rip and the oddly-stretched Australian widescreen DVD. The WS one I found on TPB seems to look right, so I wonder where it came from. I've always wondered if maybe some of the 20th Anniversary DVDs made it out, since it seemed to get cancelled kinda at the last minute, but it didn't include any extras if it *is* from there.

Very possible, and because CG doesn't exactly like stomping on newly released films/edition's toes, it's not "kosher" on CG to post a release that is ripped from a source less than a year old. I kind of think it's redundant, us pirates usually WON'T buy unless directly from the person who made it. Like Ryan Nicholson, he's gotten more of my money in the past 10 years than any director (almost tied with Robert Green Hall but Hall only has like 2 films compared to Nicholson's many) and he's actually talked with me via Facebook and has taken some of my special FX ideas and used them*. *It was just the idea of using a knife or other cutting object on a person with a piece of clothing like a t-shirt or jeans on that had a patch of fake flesh with a blood pack (he figured that out, I'm just a horror fan with big ideas and no applicable skills) sewn into it

Y'know, I wonder when this thing was shot. It was released in October '86, but KISS was busy with the Asylum Tour from November '85 to April '86. I suppose Gene's part could have been filmed quickly, but I'd think the movie must have been underway before April. So did Gene ever appear onstage at that time with the facial hair he's sporting here?
Yeah, I know, this sounds like a FAQ post. It's 6AM, I'm bored and stoned, leave me alone.

It's the same ethos the "emu skene" used to run by when there still was a skene. Annoying though, especially because it seems like there's often a lot of new documentaries that would fit the bill for CG, but don't show up because of the time limit and can't be found elsewhere without paying up. (Specifically I've been looking for Adjust Your Tracking, another doc about VHS a'la Rewind This, but can't find it anywhere, heh.)

My mullet friends and I were totally psyched to see this movie when it came out. We were there opening day, and every fucking one of us left there thinking we'd just witnessed the biggest piece of shit in horror history. Fucking awful. Same experience. LOL

You can be the most unknown artist in the world, but if they feel they can bleed your dry or else you can't release the DVD at all - they will try. The artist feels like they have the upper hand - which is why shows like WKRP have not been released on DVD beyond a first season of terrible replaced music.
