Universal Soldier - my first viewing of this film. It was okay. Nothing more, nothing less.
Four Brothers - I really liked this one. The film dragged in a few parts but other than that I was pleasantly surprised.

'four brothers' is a great movie IMO....i really need to check it out again.
is 'pirates' any good? my daughter wants to see it. she saw the preview and said "it's a new 'chicken run' movie!", lol...
don't shun me, but i watched 'just go with it' last night. it was on my DVR for months, so i figured it was time to check it out. i wouldn't recommend it, but at the same time it didn't suck. it had lots of cool music from the police, so that was a bonus....

i guess i'll have to stall her long enough until it becomes a rental ;D
saw the documentary 'inside job' earlier tonight. i don't think "enjoyed" would be the proper word describing my viewing experience, because it made my blood boil on many occasions...."worth watching" might be more appropriate.

Maybe not necessarily a movie per se, but caught PBS's 2-hour documentary Johnny Carson: King of Late Night last night. Obviously I was very young when Johnny was still on, but I remember thinking that getting to stay up to watch him was a big thrill and I still like watching the old clips, which this thing is full of. Unfortunately you don't really gain much insight into the man himself since he was such a private guy and even most of his family doesn't appear, though there's some interesting stuff about his relationship with his mother that I'd never heard before. Still, worth checking out if they rerun it and if you were a fan then it's an absolute no-brainer.

LED you sir get an Exalt for introducing a youngster to good ol' Uncle Charlie. My almost 4 year old niece doesn't get most of his humor yet, but loves the slapstick aspects of it when I put any of "The Tramp" movies on

Well, the girlfriend made me watch Hunger Games. I tried, I really did. I don't have any existing grudge against the franchise since I knew absolutely nothing about it, so I was hoping maybe the movie would suck me in and make me see what all the fuss was about, but... no. I made it a little over an hour in, but nothing was connecting and I still basically had little idea of what the hell was going on and didn't give a shit about any of the characters, so I just went to bed at that point.
I fared much better earlier in the night with my viewings of Gamera, Gamera vs. Barugon and The Sinister Urge. (All MST3K versions, though the first two were the original 1988 KTMA editions and not the versions they redid later when the show went to Comedy Central. For those who've seen 'em, those KTMA episodes are kind of a slog, aren't they?)

The KTMA eps are kinda... MEH. Yeah, I'd wanted to see some of them for years since they were the one part of MST history that I'd always heard about but had never been able to watch. I think now I understand why they were so hard to see for years and why the MST guys haven't ever released any of those episodes officially. All the ingredients are there, but the cake just wasn't ready yet.

I have them all burnt even the KTMA eps. Kind of wasted dvds for that season though.
Back on topic just watch Piranha 3DD. Fucking awesome movie, for what it tries to be. Stupid reviewers keep expecting citizen kane or something and are pissed that it's not that. I think it captures the spirit of the 80s well. Plus the fish don't fly like they did in the first piranha 2, which is a plus

Moon.
Sam Rockwell FTW. Very good as long as you enjoy sci fi with a story and not for balls out action. I liked it a lot.

I'd like to see Paul. For me Hot Fuzz is one of the best things to come out in the last ten years. Waiting for Paul to hit cable, I'm cheap! I found it pretty disappointing after Fuzz & Shaun. Pegg & frost put in good performances, but the comedy was just like all the other US fodder to me. Not terrible, just underwhelming.

Yeah, I didn't care for Paul either. Wasn't that good, wasn't that bad, just meh.
I spent a day watching some C-level trash that I accumulated from putting a bunch of VHS tapes I'd been given onto DVD a few years back and hadn't ever watched:
Night Patrol - A very stupid Police Academy-ish movie that was apparently an attempt to launch The Unknown Comic from The Gong Show into a movie career... except the movie was made in 1984, long after anyone gave a shit anymore. Also starring Billy Barty as a constantly-farting-for-some-reason Chief and Linda Blair in a hardly-in-the-movie role that must have been repayment for a coke debt. Still, it kept me entertained. Favorite joke: "How do you get a witch pregnant? ................. You fuck her"
Nashville Girl - Mid-70s drive-in exploitation sleaze about a teenage girl who becomes a country star by fucking her way to the top. That pretty much says it all, but it's good enough in a seedy kind of way to keep you watching. Has to be the only movie ever made where a teenage girl's bedroom wall prominently features a large Ronnie Milsap poster.
How Awful About Allan - Made-for-TV suspense/horror type film from 1970 starring Anthony Perkins in a typecast role as an ex-mental patient racked with guilt over having potentially started a fire that killed his father and deformed his sister. That right there already sounds more interesting than the movie actually is. Dull as shit, barely remember a thing about it.

I just saw Prometheus today.
Good movie. Not quite as good as I hoped, but still a very good, satisfying prequel to Alien. It leaves the door wide open for a sequel I'd love to see.

I really liked Paul. A friend didn't like it because 'it didn't have enough action in it'. God forbid we should have to rely on a storyline to carry a movie these days. It was a cool movie with some genuinely funny moments. I don't think a lack of action was a problem, it was hiring an American director that flattened it imo.
