In keeping with Joma's Dear Prudence posts, I really liked this hair metal version. The band has some decent songs on their one album. Worth checking out if you are in the mood for this sort of thing.

That's awesome...I like it better than SK's version Cool. I am glad I posted it then. Question is - how do you like their original material? I dug these songs back in the day. Should they have stuck to Beatles covers?

Old Andy says you young whippersnappers need to listen to some better music before you get whacked with his cane!

Understandable. I don't think they were a band that deserved better or even a second album, but they served their purpose at the time when I was buying all kind of hair metal.

Might have to check this album out again...I remember when I listened to it around the time it came out and didn't care for it. I liked this song, though, and my tastes have changed a good deal in 30 years, or whenever this came out.

He came to the band with a few songs already written that they put their names on as writers. I would love to hear your 2023 thoughts. Stand was a Kotzen song as well, which was used as the first single for Native Tongue. Slightly different lyrics. He still performs it from time to time acoustically like here with a solo spot during a Winery Dogs concert. His vocals are just amazing. What do you think?

Very cool, and I agree he has a really good voice. My buddy loves Winery Dogs...he's a huge Dream Theater and Mike Portnoy fan.

I think you will really dig it. And for my song of the day, this is another song from Native Tongue that was completely written by Kotzen, but Bret, Bobby and Rikki also get fake writing credits for. Let me know what you think.

I listened to Native Tongue this morning/early afternoon. It wasn't bad...I appreciate it much more today, but I can understand why I didn't like it when it came out as a quasi-Poison fan. Album sounds nothing like Poison other than Bret Michaels vocals. I will checkbout the electric live vid...

Oh ya, I can understand that if one is expecting Nothing Like A Good Time and Unskinny Bop, then Native Tongue will be a shock to your ears especially with Stand and gospel choirs and deeper lyrics in general, but that was typically the case with many hair bands making 90's albums. It wasn't going to sound like your favorite 1987 to 89 album from that band. Kotzen was obviously too good for the band, but I still thought he adapted and fit in well considering they had to get someone to replace CC.

Electric Stand was cool...
How the hell did you get into Kotzen? I assume you dug him prior to Poison...

Electric Stand was cool... How the hell did you get into Kotzen? I assume you dug him prior to Poison... This song was on the Bill And Ted's soundtrack, which I bought cause KISS was on it with God Gave. I dug it and looked into his albums which were mostly instrumental initially. Then got the Poison gig and really dug what he brought to the band, especially when learning that he wrote most of the album once his input was revealed after he had been fired. He got a deal immediately with Geffen and I loved his major label debut Mother Head's Family Reunion, but that went nowhere and he was dropped, but a Japan label gave him a deal and he released a slew of solo albums and I pretty much loved every one. Diverse from rock, jazz, blues, hard rock, pop, etc. Certainly some albums I prefer much more than others. Overall though he just delivers for me musically like so few others. I love The Winery Dogs, the Adrian Smith albums are cool, etc. I guess maybe Kotzen to me is like Butch Walker to you. It may not be my favorite song, it is top 4 for sure for me and I return to it a lot. Not saying it is gonna blow your mind, but if you dig it - I can recommend other similar stuff. Jerry Cantrell sings background vocals. Let me know what you think.

Even stuff with the new singer. I will do a Kotzen week to pick songs I think you will dig. Glad you dug Love Is Blind. Ya, the first song isn't that good in hindsight once you hear his later work and songwriting ability. I think you will really dig this. Video is cool. He plays all the instruments. He does a bass solo too - do you like his bass and think he is good on that instrument being a guitarist?

I don't have chops like that, nor do I know my way around a fretboard well enough to even dream of soloing on bass in that capacity. But that's why I'm a bar band hack and he's a professional musician. I can hold my own in a bar band and likely not be the weak link, but I'm not likely to make solid musicians drop their jaw or anything.
