You know what I don't get - sports fans that get upset over political views of players. I see stories about fans getting pissed off with the kneeling during the national anthem and want to boycott the NFL or there are sports fans who are offended because players refuse to go the White House and meet a horrible fucking person like Trump. I totally understand why they wouldn't want to go meet with him.
Having said that, I can separate the art from the artist when it comes to actors and filmmakers or musicians and bands, who are great at their craft - but may be assholes otherwise or support things that I don't. Don't sports fans have the brain capacity to do the same?
Look at the moronic comments posted here regarding all of this - they are going to stop watching something they love, because someone takes a political/personal stance for the length of time it takes to play the national anthem. Give me a fucking break - it's football. Not actually something important.

Does it really ruin the game for some mouth breathing, beer drinking schlub - because someone dissed the national anthem? I think - who gives a shit? I wouldn't boycott the NFL from now on if I enjoyed that crap. If anything - the national anthem and patriotism bullshit is an absolute nuisance that is just killing time that could be spent on playing the game. This is a typical reaction to the national anthem and how great America is when people watch from home. No one is standing up or giving a shit.

I thought this exchange between Bill Maher and Bob Costas was absolutely right.
MAHER: It's so funny because whenever you're here I always say, 'Bob's here and we're going to talk about sports issues because there are these big sports issues, but he is so much more than just sports.' And then I look at the issues and I'm going, 'Yeah, but sports somehow gets to all the big issues that really are bubbling up in our society.'
COSTAS: It often intersects. Despite the mouthbreathers who say, 'Leave it all out of sports, I just tuned in to hear there is a groundball to shortstop.' Fine.
I see Republicans complain about the Hollywood "elite" ala actors and their liberal ways, but at the end of the day - they still go to the movies that interest them. If Meryl Streep was in the new Star Wars, they sure as shit won't be boycotting Star Wars, because of all any Trump/Republican/America bashing. So I ask again - why can't sports fans separate the art from the artist?
Maybe you need to take the Star Spangled Awesome pickle out of your fucking ass and listen to someone who actually served.
