I was listening to Concrete Blonde last nite. It's not for everyone but I really dig them. Incredible band. Followed them for years in Hollywood, incredible live band. My wife's favorite band oddly enough. I had an uncle from Cali. record a few cassettes from KFSR radio way back in the day. He was nuts about that station. Concrete blonde were on it. I bought the ST CD and was hooked. I have most of their collection.

I have most of their collection. Good stuff. Shit, I even own the fucking awful Vowel Movement CD. I've never made it through it, much like Kiss' Carnival of Souls, but still, I supported the artist. Saw the band last year in what turned out to be their final performance. Let's hope it's like the last time I saw them for their final performance, LOL I was completely when I realized James Mankey was the original bassist from Sparks. Incredibly underrated guitarist. Guy is genuinely off as a person, not normal in the slightest, but still, his guitar solos are little slices of heaven. Just like Ace's solos in the 70s Mankey's solos could stand on their own as little mini compositions. I dont have that CD. I agree about James playing. It's really good stuff. He's severely under-rated.

Her solo album Scarred is REALLY good, though I think it went out of print pretty much right after it was released. I'm rather partial to Bloodletting and the first ST CDs. I have to research and catch up with what's up with them.

With the state of popular music today being so awful - list bands or albums that you would highly recommend. "Imperial State Electric". Featuring Nicke from The Hellacopters & The singer from the Datsuns. Doesnt sound that different from the Hellacopters, but still a very solid release.

As far as "new" music goes, eh, what is new? New to me is like, the Foo Fighters (who rule), the Darkness (who rule), and Louis the 14th (who also rule but have disappeared).

Black Veil Brides, Rise Against, etc. are all very nice kids, but don't have a clue. However. Those bands will always bury anything Blackwell likes (Britney, Katy, Justin)...

Just started listening to MY BEST FIEND as of yesterday... The whole album is dripping in influence. And, there is a LOT going on in this album cover. Superb. One of the SICKEST album covers EVER.

Looking for something a bit heavier? The New Orange Goblin "Eulogy For The Damned" is the best thing they've ever done

I haven't delved far enough to recommend this gent (nor am I completely certain I love all of his music) but there's a musician by the name of Hanni El Khatib (who is based in LA) who's got this unique sounding, almost Jack White blend of music. www.hannielkhatib.com/I heard this song at the end of an episode of Californication and immediately loved it. Managed to track it down and that's how Hanni appeared on my musical radar.
