Do you have any favorite actors that seem to be missing from movies for the last few years - but were having a great career in the 90's and early 2000?

I always liked Judd Nelson (although we're going back some further, I realize). I thought he had the chops to be really good.
Like Tarantino or not, he has a great knack for uncovering long-shelved gems and giving them solid parts.

Honestly, even though much older now and he's made a MILLION films, I'd love to see Gene Hackman come back one more time (retired since 2004) in a really smartly written part where he can exercise his chops in a major way....(Scorsese or Fincher or Mann film, maybe).
Ok, I'm getting way out the range you're talking about here. LOL

never really "big name" movie actors, i always thought bruce mcculloch & kevin mcdonald from 'kids in the hall' could always strengthen a comedy with their presence. although, mcculloch did have a good role in 'dick', but that was awhile ago....

I would love to see Martin Starr have a big break out role.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the two most obvious choices - Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
They still act in movies today, sure, but the majority of the movies they are cast in are shit.

De Niro was great in Silver Linings Playbook and Pacino was great in You Don't Know Jack and Phil Spector. They will be both be working with Scorcese on a new mafia film.

I edited my post.
Those are TV movies. I don't consider that a career comeback. They are still great actors of course, but nothing they have done since the early 2000's has been memorable.
If both of them do end up working with Scorcese (nothing has been confirmed so far), I will be happier than a pig in shit.

But like I said, De Niro was great in Silver Linings and while not a hit film, I really dug De Niro in What Just Happened.

Rick Moranis comes to mind, though his 'exile' was self-imposed. In recent interviews he's said that it's not that he's decided to retire from acting completely, just that he wants the right script to come along and if it never does, no matter, because he's content with what he's got now.
I kinda agree with Vandelay on the Kids in the Hall cast, but man, most of those guys have not aged well at *all*. I saw some recently-filmed interviews with them via the Nerdist podcast channel where they'd show an old sketch and then cut to the guys in newly-filmed segments talking about it, and it was outright jarring. I suppose it would be different if we'd just seen them age in front of the camera naturally, but most have been out of the spotlight for so long that I almost bet people are hesitant to cast them just because they mostly look so different now (save for Scott Thompson, who's held up fairly well *and* continues to get work in small parts).

Pacino and De Niro don't need to make comebacks.. It's not like they're struggling for work. At this point in their careers, what is left to prove? Like HM said, De Niro was brilliant in Silver Linings and What Just Happened was phenomenal. Everybody's Fine, Limitless and Being Flynn also come to mind in regards to terrific DeNiro performances in the last few years.. As for The Irishman (the Scorsese project): Robert De Niro claimed that he is going to play Sheeran and Al Pacino will play Hoffa, and Joe Pesci will play Russell Buffalino. Charles Brandt has confirmed all the above mentioned roles in an interview on Coast to Coast AM.

Pacino on the other hand, well he was fucking appalling in that movie with Christopher Walken. Stand Up Guys. I had to turn the cunt off after about 10 minutes, he was so atrocious.

He's a movie producer in Canada, land of the best low budget horror films (don't think that's his focus though sadly)
