I have spent the last few weeks burning through documentaries on Netflix, figured I would start a thread so we (if anyone is interested) can talk about some of the better ones we have seen.
Recently I watched a few that I would highly recommend:
Rich Hill: Follows three boys growing up in poverty in Rich Hill, Missouri. I really enjoyed this one and found myself remembering my own childhood throughout.
Sons of Perdition: The story of teenagers who have been exiled from the FLDS Church (a polygamist cult) by Warren Jeffs. This was a really solid watch, I understood that life in a polygamist cult must be fucked up, but this really hits it home. The disconnect these kids have from the world (no knowledge of pretty much anything) is absolutely insane. At one point in the doc, one boy (I think he was 17) was talking about learning of the holocaust the night before and he confused Hitler with Bill Clinton. Well worth a watch.

God I've seen TOO many. Probably 19 out of 20 films I watch are documentaries. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Don't stop believing the story of Journey and their new singer Arnel.
Ancient Aliens series. Even if you don't believe or give a damn about the ancient alien theory there is some great archeology in these.
Hitler and the Occult. It was an interesting watch. It covers his quest for getting the spear of destiny.
Fat, Sick and nearly dead. Great documentary

Shit, whether I believe something or not, I am interested. Nothing wrong with information. Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead was a good one, part 2 is on Netflix now.. Will watch it sometime soon.

I like Ancient Aliens. They show some interesting artifacts the most shows don't bother with. It's really interesting to think of how and the fuck did people in the stone age build these fucking huge places with big stones. Personally I think the earth has been thru several 'cleansing' where some catastrophe happens and civilizations dwindle down and regroup. They've shown where there is evidence of a nuclear war in India eons ago. Interesting stuff. You ever watch some shows about how the earth will look after humans are gone? I can't recall what it's called but it was a great show. I got on a kick a while back watching Hitler and nazi related documentaries as I didn't know much about it. Really weird and interesting stuff.

I watch mostly one hour docs that are part of PBS' nature series or NOVA.
Smithsonian has some great ones as well, we watched an awesome titanboa (may be titanaboa) documentary. That would have been one giant cunt of a snake.

Hell, just check my posts in the "What Was the Last Movie..." thread. 9 out of 10 of them include documentaries.

I watch mostly one hour docs that are part of PBS' nature series or NOVA. Indeed, if your streaming-type device (Roku 1 is only like 25 bucks! You need it, trust me!) has a PBS channel, there's all sorts of great shit there. The Independent Lens and American Masters shows have a ton of great documentaries too, and a huge assortment of series is available.

And to throw in an actual recommendation other than another plug for the Roku (they should be paying me), HBO's now-in-the-news documentary series The Jinx about the Robert Durst cases is pretty fantastic. There's six episodes, and despite every news station in the world spoiling the final episode's last scene as soon as it aired, it's still a compelling watch throughout as the stories unfold.
