I have a couple of drummer friends that told me the Peter Criss Alive drum solo on 100,000 Years is so easy to play. In other words, what might have seemed impressive to a child or teenager in 1975, is actually simple as hell. According to them anyway. What's your take on it?

It's very basic. You could play it in a few minutes time.
I taught my wife how to play that pattern and I LOVE IT LOUD in minutes. lol

I remember in the 70's and 80's - people would go on and on about how amazing it is.

I loved it as a kid when it came out in '75 and then a year later I heard the solo in the middle of WORKING MAN from ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE and Powell's playing on RAINBOW RISING. Needless to say, that changed my interest big time.

Let It Be is easy to play. Let It Be is genius. Peter Criss' drum solo for 100,000 years is easy to play. Peter Criss' drum solo for 100,000 years is genius. It's about the creator.

I taught myself the Alive! solo in my first year of playing drums, so there ya go, LOL It's a fun groove, but not for 17 minutes, LOL Way back when I thought it was awesome, now all I hear is a solo that goes on and on and doesn't do anything. Like DWF once I heard some other, better drum solos I realize we'd been had! It's a masterpiece compared to the ALIVE II solo though.

Anything Peter does is perfect. Even the really shitty bits. We either just ignore them, or call them "feel", while snorting at other drummers that we very quietly know are much better at what they do.

It's a masterpiece compared to the ALIVE II solo though. Chopping is so horribly done who can tell? Still, anyone who ever saw Poison open for Kiss can't complain about Peter's solo after watching Rikki Rocket's. I once went to a drummer Q&A with Tommy Aldridge, during the Slip Of The Tongue years and someone asked him who he thought was a terrible drummer despite their success. Without hesitation, he said Rikki Rockett is just awful and Aldridge almost seemed offended that Rockett calls himself a drummer.
