Ok, the movie is legendary as we all know, but I battle with it. It’s just plot hole after plot hole in my opinion, and I find it difficult to watch. Chime in anybody…….
1. The movie opens and they land in a lake, in the middle of the Grand Canyon. One of the most (if not the most famous) landmarks in history. They don’t realise their on earth or in the Grand Canyon. Later in the movie, we are led to believe the Grand Canyon location, Is what’s left of New York. So is this saying the Grand Canyon doesn’t exist in the universe the movie is set in? I apologise if this is a deep subject, but the suspension of disbelief theory has never worked with me.
2. Geography wise, how could grassy meadows, and bush lands be right beside a vast desert stretch of land?
3. They aren’t sure what planet they’re on , but the apes are riding horses??!!. Surely they aren’t dumb enough to believe horses exist on another planet….or maybe they are just dumb.
I know I may get negative opinions on my subject, but it’s just one movie where I scratch my head.

All I know about Planet Of The Apes I learned from Spaceballs and The Simpsons. Must do something about that.

It's been a long time since I have seen the original so I would need to revisit, but if I recall - it was just an alternate Earth where Apes were the "humans" and actual humans were deemed the animals with liberties taken for sure. It is sci-fi after all, so they can do whatever they want. It is deemed a classic film nonetheless.

Who says it’s the Grand Canyon? Yeah they obviously FILMED it there because it’s a movie, but “in universe” it’s not actually the Grand Canyon. It’s just some random area decimated by war or asteroids or whatever. He’s in New York not Arizona remember?
Same argument saying “why didn’t they know it’s earth because they were all speaking English?” Because if it was another language and we learnt it at the same time they did then it would be a six month long movie. That’s just the way movies work. They’re not going to fly to another planet to film it.
You’re wondering why they didn’t know they were on earth because there were horses? What about human beings? Or chimpanzees, orangutans and gorillas?
And if you’re nitpicking - the big thing you didn’t pick up on - if it was Earth the whole time, then there are now three moons. They throw that in at the start and then hope everyone forgets about it by the end.
If earth somehow got another moon or two it would totally throw off the balance of the planet and fuck up the tides and everything. But again … just an interesting detail because it’s a movie not a documentary. A superb one.

Not the 68 version anyway.

New one coming out in May. I still enjoy watching the tv and animated series.
