I'm something of a Beasties fan...wasn't even aware of this album.
What are your fave B-Boy albums, Batts? I think mine are Ill Communication and Paul's Boutique.

Have you heard Rock Hard? We did an episode on that one too. Anyhoo...my personal favorite is Check Your Head.

The other ctual tune was solid as well. I heard about Rock Hard when I read the Beastie Boys book...I had no idea either because they couldn't ever re-release it. You can still get it on discogs on 12"...but I've yet to pull the trigger.

I'm now transitioning this thread into another continuing thread like my other podcast. The Department of Metal Antiquities started off as an Instagram show with my friend, Duncan Evans (Late of Forest of Stars and currently Duncan Evans and The Weeping Starlight) where we would listen to albums we had never heard by famous artists and discuss them as we listened. In time, we realized that it made more sense to just do it as a podcast. Here's the introduction episode: open.spotify.com/episode/0qAXpr4ZXUMQMlLxr9v8QvDid you know Ian Gillan recorded with Black Sabbath? Did you know about Jimmy Page's folk album with Roy Harper? What about Robert Plant's disco pop solo album? We even discussed Quiet Riot featuring Randy Rhoads. There's just so much out there by these big name artists that came and went that I felt like we should start documenting them. The most common comment we get back, and it's the one I want, is that I have never even heard of this album. Naturally, not all of the albums are golden like Coverdale/Page, so we give a simple rating at the end of each episode: Spin it or Bin it? If I'll ever listen again, it's a spin, if I won't, it's a bin.

I especially like these episodes. Rare, under the radar albums or just albums you give a fresh new listen to like when you did The Firm with Page/Rodgers.

That one was fun, because like when we did Second Sighting and Joe Perry Project, we did the second album by a new band.
I think there's a lot of really good insight when you review those albums rather than the first. We all know that Joe Perry and Ace had been saving up songs instead of giving them to Aerosmith and Kiss respectively.

While I don't always agree with your views and I think I made some comments on the FAQ when you posted your Coverdale/Page and Firm episodes (maybe others as well) - I appreciate the deep dive you go into with these albums.

This week, we recorded Spinal Tap's, BREAK LIKE THE WIND! Everybody knows their debut album...aka Smell The Glove aka the soundtrack to Spinal Tap, but how many of you have heard their follow up? Link forthcoming. The publish button has already been smashed.

Cool that you did this. Will listen. I don't know why, but I actually really like the song Cash On Delivery. Just the energy of it. I am not saying it is a good song.

I have an idea for an upcoming show - especially if you have never heard these albums. Sort of a theme here. In 1991 - Geffen Records signed two guitarists who were previously in big bands that recorded similar bluesy/soulful hard rock records. Maybe in a weird way they cancelled each other out because they were both kinda going for the same thing in their own way and style on the same label and they couldn't push them both equally, but both are great. Zakk Wylde with Ozzy Osbourne and Richie Kotzen with Poison. With Zakk - Pride And Glory: With Richie - The Mother's Head Family Reunion: Of course Zakk was more successful as he was more of a name than Kotzen and made the excellent Book Of Shadows - his best album on Geffen again, while Kotzen himself was making great albums too - but for a Japan record label. I would be happy to point you into that direction if you do this episode and dig the Kotzen album.

The Winery Dogs. You really should. I also highly recommend you check out this Kotzen album. It won't be a waste of your time as you should dig it. As a favor to me to too - so I can listen to the episode. I will listen to the Pride & Glory episode. To be honest, I have tons of ideas of episodes to do, but I get it if you are not a take requests kind of show. If you do welcome the ideas, let me know.

I thought we were friends. The Poison connection, in my opinion, is a bit too tenuous. He just took the job for his career and ended up getting fired because he fucked and had a child with Rockett's girlfriend. He wasn't a fan and his solo stuff sounds nothing like it. Is this Poison?

He wasn't a fan and his solo stuff sounds nothing like it. Is this Poison? Meaning. He's not a big enough name on his own and his connection to Poison isn't big enough. Like Gary Moore in Thin Lizzy works. CC Deville doing Samantha 7 works. Tony Martin works because he did like 6 Sabbath records. Or doing the Ritchie Kotzen Poison record...which we did... open.spotify.com/episode/44J0wmGo63Gf4j3YoRkPZb?si=it6cvJprQYCtW6si8eVxMQ

Fair enough there. That's why the Zack/Richie/Geffen Records thing was a theme. But you should be digging into Kotzen anyway as a music fan. One of those brilliant, but under the radar artists.

We go really deep into this one, the history, and talk about Coverdale...a lot. I did have a very different reaction to this record than I did when I reviewed it originally back in the day: glaciallymusical.blogspot.com/2013/01/album-review-walking-into-clarksdale-by.html

In fact Still Of The Night and Judgement Day - granted very Zeppelin - are pretty much the only instances where Coverdale goes full on Zeppelin in the Whitesnake catalog. Early Whitesnake has more in common with Foghat than it is does Led Zeppelin. Boogie blues hard rock. He is also a more soulful deeper range singer than Plant. But again, great episode.

Show request. James Gang are known for their Joe Walsh albums, which you should absolutely listen to if you haven't already. But they did two albums with Tommy Bolin when Walsh left the band and they added a new lead singer Roy Kenner. Bang and Miami that are far less known, but great. Do them please. Seems Bolin was the replacement guy - as he also replaced Blackmore in Purple.
