Yes.
There is a lot of great stuff on there and of course some shitty songs as well.
One thing for sure is that there are songs on here that should have been on KISS albums - especially considering the Gene songs that were chosen on those 80's albums instead.

I bought it when it dropped to $500. Wish I woulda waited till it was available just recently without the silly safe for under 100 bucks. I think there's a lot of solid material in there and am a bit dumbfounded why some of it didn't make it to albums over other material...especially Asshole. That album has grown on me, but he could have released a fantastic rock CD with the better tunes off the Vault.

Kinda looks like it's made outta leather.

More or less. Sorta funny is half my CDs were fucked, and while dealing with that to get them replaced, they ended up sending me a whole second set of everything. So I had two silly safes! I ended up giving the second set to a friend. Anyhow, the point of that is the two silly safes looked a good bit different from each other.

The surprise gift was only included for the first year he sold them. So anyone who bought it after that still paid the $2000 for it but didn’t get the socks or the spare 3D glasses from the cancelled Psycho Circus shows.
Personally I just downloaded the entire thing shortly after release, listened to everything once then deleted it.
Actually I probably listened to the VH demos twice.

You couldn't find anything of worth here, you don't get Hotter Than Hell, etc.

Nope.
I'm not big on demos, especially of artists who've been recording and releasing music for 5 decades.
I just can't imagine there's anything on this album that I need to hear.

There is so much great stuff on here - it is almost insulting to KISS fans with the garbage we were mostly given in the 80's instead.

It is hilarious that he actually thought that the music would never be available and now wants Gene to make it right. If you actually believed Gene - knowing how much he lies - then that it is on you. Of course the music was going to be sold for much less at some point. Just dumb. www.kissfaq.com/forum24/viewtopic.php?p=3838914#p3838914

I never said Hotter Than Hell was bad per se, I just don’t understand how people can think it’s the best KISS album or a great album in general.
A great album is Rumours. Hotel California. Revolver. Paranoid.
Hotter Than Hell has a bunch of fair songs on it and two or three quite good ones, all of which were bettered on Alive! Nothing as good as Strutter, nothing as good as Black Diamond or 100,000 Years.
What songs on the Vault are great? There are some that are INTERESTING, to hear the demos of what became KISS songs later. But there wasn’t anything that I heard that made me think damn, they missed a trick not putting this one on an album! Gene forgot how to write good songs after 1978 anyway.
Where I can listen to Eric Carr Rockology and think that a bunch of those songs should have been KISS songs. Can You Feel It, Too Cool For School, Eyes of Love etc, they would have all worked on the 80s KISS albums and given some much needed variety from the Gene & Paul Show. Same as the Peter and Ace songs back in the 70s. Even if they’re not the best songs they add texture to the albums. Same as the Ringo and George songs on the early Beatles albums.

KISS have never made a front to back great album and certainly don't compete with other bands, which is something I have already discussed. So it is silly to mention the albums you did, because KISS are just not on that level. In the world of KISS though, Hotter Than Hell is among their very best - but the production ruined it's true potential. It probably depends on how much of a Gene fan you are. I love his 78 album, The Elder and certainly his songs on Creatures, LIU and Revenge - so there is a bunch of great stuff on the box set if you are like me and you are a more of a Gene guy than a Paul guy. Where as I only think Eyes Of Love off of the Eric Carr album was a missed opportunity and it should have been on HITS.

I like Got To Choose better than any Paul tune off the S/T. Goin' Blind is one of my favorite KISS songs outright... Vault tunes. The Revenge era Everybody Knows rules. Also dig: I Wait Something Wicked This Way Comes Juliet Hey You (cool idea, but unfinished) Weapons (w/Ace) I Wanna Live Bells of Freedom Are You Real I Am Yours No Conscience It Gonna Be Alright I Wanna Rule the World Fourever I also like plenty of the weird stuff, hard to remember some of the names...

Like remember when Led Zeppelin released those deluxe bonus editions about 10 years ago? I got the first couple, and never listened to the works in progress versions so I stopped buying the deluxe CD packages...this was before I switched to vinyl. I DID listen to the rough mix of ...And Justice For All, but those songs were done, just not mixed. I also didn't listen to any of the other demo stuff in the justice set.

About half were unfinished and had new Bruce solos on them or nonsense vocals or no vocals at all.

Ya I assumed the whole thing was a farce such as Gene getting ahold of some songs then getting some musicians to lay down the music so he could just put his vocals onto it then claim they're demos from whenever.

Perfectly true. I’m talking about the original CD from twenty years ago that came out after the Rockheads EP which was just like four songs. Not talking about any expanded reissue that may have had more unfinished stuff on it.
