Name movies that everyone (or most people) hate, but you love - because your taste in movies is better than everyone else's.
I will start with Punch Drunk Love.

While I hardly think it's brilliant, don't get me wrong, I actually LIKE Death To Smootchy. I thought it was an unfairly maligned black comedy.
I also think that The Exorcist III gets ignored, historically.
I have a penchant for the critically PANNED Rocky II (and III).
While not a Jim Jarmusch fan, I love Bill Murray in Broken Flowers. I think 7 people have seen it.
Eyes Wide Shut I love. Suck it. LOL.
I love the Star Wars prequels....all of them.

I loved Eyes Wide Shut and Broken Flowers too. The Star Wars prequels do suck though. Can't think of movies everyone hates I love, a lot of what I love is ignored by ignorant people who are easily satisfied by crap. Did anyone ever tell you that you are a film elitist?

I think they're well structured, fun films...smartly edited, effectively scored, well-storied. Much like the original films. There is more to filmmaking than ones impression of dialogue. I've seen well-written films that are dogdy as shit over 2 hours on film. That alone doesn't make a film succeed and Star Wars (all of them, honestly) illustrate that those things need not be a movie's strongest asset. It's great when it can be all things, that's true.
I don't think the dialogue has ever really been any of the film's strong suits, quite honestly...and if you take Harrison Ford's swagger and natural charm out of the originals, the quality of the performances drops emensely.
The written criticisms of the originals were quite similar to that of the prequels: they were hailed for their popcorn fun and panned for their goofy wordsmithing, but the film was so bombastic and incredible to behold, you forgave such things. Indeed, look back at reviews from '77 and see how little the acting is praised on the whole. (Yes, I realize Guiness was nominated for supporting actor, but so then too was George for his script and directing....and there were never again any acting or directing nods, not even for the superior Empire. Just to cut that argument short before it starts).
In short, NONE of the six are known for the things that you're criticizing, even if it varies between the films. What all six are, to me, are good popcorn fun that tell an interesting story that I care to revisit over and over. Despite what you might believe should be so, the prequels are NOT universally panned.

Despite what you might believe should be so, the prequels are NOT universally panned. They are PRETTY MUCH universally panned. I am sure if we could actually calculate those who love the prequels and those who hate the prequels - it wouldn't even be remotely comparable. Those that hate it would in every possible way surpass those that love it. If nothing else, don't you think someone else should have directed instead of Lucas, who hadn't directed a film in forever and that Hayden Christinsen should have never been cast? I love this review of The Phantom Menace. Part 1 and 2 of 7 (Part 3 to 7 are there on You Tube)

No, you're mistaken about their panning. Sorry. It doesn't hold up. For instance, Sith garnered an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's hardly disappointment. Even Eps. I and II each rated "fresh," garnering positivity in the 60+ percentile. Hardly stellar, I agree, but if those numbers were in the 20s or 30s you'd have a stronger case. The fact is, more people enjoy them than hate them and there are indeed numbers that pan that out....at least more numbers than you're able to quote for your argument. I'm fine with Lucas's direction. The truth is he'd have hawked over the production like he did with Jedi, which is still the worst of the six in my mind...so the reality of someone else directing was never going to happen. He'd have chosen a complete nobody guy like Marquand and forced his and and I don't think that's any better than just doing it yourself. Maybe if three more get made after Lucas dies (7-9??) we'll get the chance to find out. I welcome it. I just don't hate the guy or the films as much as you do. I don't suppose you'll sway me on the subject any sooner than I'll sway you...nor are you likely to logically argue the enjoyment out of me either. You are, however, factually wrong that MOST people hate these films.

Something that comes to mind for me are all those "(Blank) Movie" parodies. I know they never, ever get good reviews, but clearly they have an audience since they always do well and keep getting made.
I was forced to watch Vampires Suck a while back with the girlfriend and some of her friends. All of them had a jolly good time while I wanted to scratch my eyes out. I know these movies aren't intended to be anything more than 80 minutes of shutting your brain off to chuckle at stupid jokes, but they can't even get that right.
(And yet, it also makes me wonder...is it just me? I loved stuff like Hot Shots and Naked Gun et al back in the day, but in retrospect, I'm not entirely sure they're really much better. And given that the GF and her friends are younger than me, they've never even seen those movies, so maybe that's what makes these new ones seem fresher to them.)

Yeah, there's plenty of room for a variety of opinions. Whew! Otherwise we'd just let you write the book, buy it, read it, and recite it. Thankfully it's not that simple. Again, well made or not, Citizen Kane is a bore to me. By all critical thinking I "ought" to love it and I don't...but then again I don't merely love or hate something simply because I'm supposed to either. Occasionally I *gasp* cut across the grain even. Weird.

The real question is, what do Blackwell and Bob Lefsetz think on the matter?

Apparently I'm the only person on the planet that loved The English Patient. You and an academy of voters who felt it was better than anything else released that year and Trainspotting wasn't worth their time. My vote for best picture that year would have gone to Marvin's Room, which also wasn't nominated.

Vanilla Sky is another i would nominate in this catagory. ROCKY I - IV all absolute classics. I still can't find that movie version of Gonna fly now has extra stick to it.

He's like a latter day Jerry Lewis, only even less funny. No shame in that. Jim Carrey is bloody inspired in parts i.e. Bathroom scene of The Cable guy or Liar Liar. For me an all time Jim Carrey highlight is It doesn't get much more inspired than this

ever seen reposessed? my friends say its a poor movie but i love it vampires suck was funny too I kinda like Repossessed. It's stupid, but it's the good kind of stupid from the Naked Gun-type template of parody movies rather than the shit that passes now. ...Which includes Vampires Suck and pretty much every other parody movie in the last decade. VS maybe wasn't _as_ awful as the other Friedberg/Seltzer movies, but I thought it was still a big piece of shit.

There's a movie from 1988 called Salsa. I absolutely love it (along with its soundtrack).
It made under 10 million at the box office and constantly receives low ratings, but I don't care.
Sadly a couple of years after this film one of the actors, Rodney Harvey, died from a drug overdose.
