They all had bad wardrobes, embarrassing hair-do's, and shitty music.

I really love a lot of 80s music. Post Punk was the best, a lot of great bands came out of that, Smiths, The Cure, Echo And The Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, Sisters Of Mercy, Bauhaus, etc. I LOVE that stuff. Love all the cheezy pop of the time, new wave was awesome. By the mid/late 80s the pop world lost me but there were some good metal bands bried in the sea of garbage coming out of the Sunset Strip. I know they get a lot of hate but Bon Jovi were a really good band, GNR, Jane's Addiction, Danzig, King's X, lots to love. Like any era, need to wade through the crap to get to the good stuff. I'm with ya on that. I was a little kid at the start of the 80s but I always loved listening to music so I watched a lot of MTV along with my scooby doo episodes It gave me an early appreciation for the post punk and new wave bands. My dad died in 86 and my mom got a new boyfriend not long after he died. He had two daughters that were older than me and took pity on the awkward sad little girl they were now sharing a house with and introduced me to all of those metal/hair bands and it clicked with me. I was a weird metalhead/hair band freak girl all through junior high. By the time high school started I had also started gravitating back to those new wave bands that I liked so much as a little kid. It didn't hurt that the local library had a really good collection of those albums. I'd see an album there, remember a song I'd liked and bring the album home and tape it to a cassette. Ironically while I had no problem doing that as a kid, I refuse to illegally download music now.

The guys in Jovi are very good players. I'm just not a fan of the majority of what they have done since the mid 90's. JBJ has severely watered them down beyond belief. Doing amazing business though. Also like Black Crowes, King's X, Thunder, Extreme, Tesla, Maiden, and Mr. Big.

I heard reports that Alec John Such never played on the Bon Jovi albums. Or very little anyway. Why wasn't this guy cut loose earlier? Was Jon essentially doing a favor for a friend?

He knew Rich and Tico prior to Jovi from the shore clubs. I assume it snowballed quickly and they realized his weakness pretty soon but tried to make it work. It got more serious when he developed dependency issues.(Hugh was there doing records years before people become aware there was a problem.) Love Tico, Rich, & Dave. Great players and funny guys. Haven't seen them in nearly 10 years, but in the 80s' and 90's we had a helluva lot of fun from NY to Florida !

By the way, since you have (or did have) a Geffen connection, do you know if the rumors were true that Geffen rejected Whitesnake's Slip Of The Tonge and wanted Coverdale to essentially record a whole new album? I have read that a few times and even Kalodner made a reference to Geffen not exactly being blown away by it.

I have read that a few times and even Kalodner made a reference to Geffen not exactly being blown away by it. Did have. (Been years since they were there. Knew them from my days in independent promotion and media. Early 80's until about '00. So much has scaled down to nothing. Had friends at every major label you could think of in NY and LA - few are still at it though. ) I never heard that about SLIP. I have heard Kalodner say over the years he wanted a few songs added that were more single oriented and I believe he was the one who pushed for the reworking of BURNING HEART by Vandenberg. The old "it was a hit before, it can be a hit again" mentality.
