Well, this came up a couple times, so fuck it, I'm just picking something and going with this one. (And yeah, Cducharme, I know the version you were referring to is the 2007 film and not this one.)
So, haven't rewatched yet, but random opening thoughts: This is a nifty little movie that didn't really deserve to be forgotten in the way it seemingly has been. Sure, it's everything awful about '80s horror rolled up into one big ball of cheese, but it's a fun one. What was the reception back when this first came out, if anyone remembers? Was there excitement over a "metal movie" being made?
It's odd how the movie has fallen through the legal cracks, too. It almost seems like it may be in the public domain somehow, since the only DVD was released by a company who always specialized in PD stuff. Of course, the soundtrack and all the songs within definitely aren't public domain, so that DVD was essentially illegal and I remember Anchor Bay had to cancel a planned 20th-anniversary special edition release because they couldn't clear all the music. Wonder if any leaks of AB's cancelled disc ever made it out...
Fun note - The movie was directed by Charles Martin Smith, better known as Toad in American Graffiti!
And how 'bout Gene in this thing? Maybe I'll be eating these words when I rewatch it, but I always loved his performance here. He seems to be having fun and actually comes across as convincing onscreen for once. Maybe he shoulda just been a really cool DJ and skipped that KISS thing altogether.

Looks like the whole movie is on Youtube for anyone who doesn't have a copy or doesn't want to bother with a torrent:

I remember staying the night at a friend's house to watch this on pay per view back in the day, my parents wouldn't let me near it in our house. We ordered pizza, got amped up on Mountain Dew and got ready for the ride of our lives. We had been jamming the soundtrack for months before we ever even saw it and were ready for something as bad ass as the album cover was: Wow, were we disappointed (aside from Gene & that headphone scene and the naked boobs - we were 11 years old). I admit that I own it on DVD and did enjoy revisiting it one time again - but it truly is a piece of shit through and through.

Since hard rock was popular in all the schools I went to, I wonder if anyone experienced what Marc Price's character went through - being considered a creepy loser for liking hard rock/metal.

Fastway were fantastic. I sent IAH the first and second album and he loved it. I am really surprised that Dave King didn't have a bigger career in America. You would think a ton of bands would want this guy to sing for them after Fastway were done. Just a killer voice.

There were maybe 8-9 metalheads at my high school (including one fucking dumbfuck who literally named his kid "Sebastian Bach Satterfield" hahahahaha) I hung out with them as they were the fun group but I was always the weird one who loved hippie shit and goth stuff. My school was all jock douchebags and the like so whatever bullshit was popular was what they liked. Was fun seeing everyone jump on the GNR bandwagon, poseurs. So in other words, Trick Or Treat was accurate in that if you liked hard rock/metal - you were the school loser and masterbation was your best friend since you had no chance with any of the girls at school.

By the way, is that picture of you how you go to work at the law firm? Cool if you can get away with it. I thought you might have to pony-tail it.

It was almost exactly like the movie in several my schools . Being a metalhead was considered the lowest. Fuck it I was listen to Sabbath at the tender age of 5 so I wasn't about to jump on the U2 bandwagon. I seen some physical abuse over it. Then everyone came around with fucking Def Leppard T-shirts and Bon Jovi jumping on the scene. Fuck the posers, pals. Sammi Curr lives!
This movie is one of my all time favorites. I love this soundtrack as well.

He does fairly well with Flogging Molly, they draw good crowds ... at least they sell out the theaters as headliners

Even the mullets laughed at Kiss. I imagine it was even more hysterical when everyone jumped on the Metallica bandwagon, I was outta school by then. I hear ya. I was long gone before the lovefest over Selloutica happened. It's so funny since they very people would bully the fuck out of you for even thinking about liking something called "metallica" cunts.. the lot of them.

Ok we're gonna do a new thing, tookie, iah and I will be doing steam of concious reviews in a jumbled mess of (in my case drunk) reactions.
How fucking awesome is the opening song? Also why were metal heads portrayed as little pussies?

As a KISS fan its funny to see how uncool KISS was considered at the time. Gene is in the fucking movie, yet there's no way even the geek from the movie would would have a KISS poster in his room among his Ozzy, Anthrax, and Twisted Sister posters... Also Sammi Curr looks like Vinnie Vincents Top!

Wow they were little pussies? Not where I live. Also tear down the walls you little cunt My generation are all douchebags.. So the metal kids were just 'hmm.. if I sew this patch on my shitty fuckin coat, people will think I'm cool when I am sitting in the middle of the hallway playing pokemon..' I remember one kid had a Macabre patch, I thought that was fuckin' cool since I never knew anyone personally who was a Macabre fan, I complimented it and he had no fuckin idea what I was saying

It kind of does remind me of how much I liked KISS as a kid (minus writing letters etc), but I think my dad would have drawn the line if I was into some guy wearing a leather thong onstage in bondage looking gear. I wonder how my dad woulod have reacted if I was into Blackie Lawless with his dirty ass hanging out???
