While I love bands like The Black Keys and Jack White/The White Stripes - I am kind of sick of these bands still doing the lo-fi rock thing with a "bad" production sound on purpose, little to no bass and effects used on the vocals to make it sound like the lead singer is using a bullhorn or something.
Now one could argue that this is the "sound" of these bands and they wouldn't be who they are without it, but bands change their sound all the time and I would love for the The Black Keys to make a lush, bombastic, thick sounding record and stop with the lo-fi for at least for an album. I think a Black Keys album produced Back In Black style producton wise would be awesome.
Agree/disagree?

Totally agree HM. I can't find anything to like about these bands. Just not my thing.

I like lo-fi. I hate always hearing really bombastic "perfect" sounding productions. Ironically though, most lo-fi bands write shitty songs, so...

I think the sound The Black Keys have is appropriate for their material. R.L. Burnside influenced blues rock would lose it's punch if glossed up in the studio too much. Blues ain't supposed to be pretty. It turns into modern day Clapton adult contemporary bullshit when that happens.
Guys like Joe Bonamassa can really do great things with a producer like Kevin Shirley because of the nature of his material. It works with the production. But t I think the opposite is true with the Black Keys. I love their sound just as it is.

Love the reality of low fi. I personally hate most polished over produce music.

Love the reality of low fi. I personally hate most polished over produce music. Me too, unless it's someone really fucking good that way, like Queen or Jellyfish.
