Apparently Rocky Balboa has cancer - which of course he could still beat, but I think they are going for potential Oscar glory by making an emotional, powerful and dramatic film with Stallone hopefully giving the performance of his life.
Remember Creed isn't written or directed by Stallone, but Ryan Coogler - who directed Fruitvale Station, so this is probably going to be a very good movie even though it's a spin off.
So would you be fine with a scenario where Rocky actually dies or do you feel that Rocky dying can just not happen because Rocky is movie character icon or for any other reason?

An ever dwindling group of people You make it sound like hundreds - Rocky still has many millions of fans worldwide, cable networks often have Rocky marathons because they do well for ratings and tourists go every year to Philly to run up the steps.

I'm fine with it. Stallone CAN act, would work I'd say. About time to end the character. I'm optimistic. No Creed training montages to shitty rap please... I am fine with it too and Stallone has the ability to bring it with an emotional death scene that will make grown men cry like a baby.

Exactly. It's like asking if you will be sad if Kiss retires. The answer is that the last truly great Rocky film was 30+ years ago (Rocky 3). It's all been pretty pointless since.

It was good, but not on the level of 1-3....and 4 and 5 were fucking awful. That's mostly underwhelming or worse since III.

The vast majority of the past 30 years of Rocky has sucked....so it can't happen soon enough.

Rocky Balboa was wonderful and the only sequel that fit the tone of the first two. Yep. Rocky III and especially Rocky IV is where the franchise became more cartoon-like. This scene is wonderful:

I can never say a series has run too long, I mean fuck I pine for a more traditional Friday the thirteenth sequel and that'd be film 13.

The film should end with Rocky going in for his next round of chemotherapy, with a monologue about cancer being something he'll be fighting for the rest of his life. There's no point killing him off on-screen - we know cancer kills. Leave his fate ambiguous.

There's no point killing him off on-screen - we know cancer kills. Leave his fate ambiguous. That would leave it open to more films down the line. Have him die and the only way he comes back is as zombie Rocky. Which would be awesome. Night Of The Living Balboa. I like it.

I would rather not see Rocky die in the movie, primarily because it would seem like a forced thing. A stunt plot point - shock the people, get attention. I suppose if it was REALLY organic to the story and handled well then, yeah, that would be fine, but if it seems like the death of Kirk kind of thing (where they decided beforehand to kill him, but couldn't come up with a good way to do it) then it would only hurt the movie (just like Star Trek Generations where that scene really didn't pay off and detracted from the movie - unlike the death of Spock in Star Trek II).

By the way - spoiler alert...
Paulie is already dead and won't appear in Creed. Rocky has been truly alone. Not sure yet why his son isn't around.

Rocky is known for its forced deaths. Creed dying was awful. Contrived. Felt very forced and stupid to me, like the rest of that movie. Mickey made sense and I still find that snot bubble and blubbering scene to be very moving.
