I didn't know what gay was really. It appealed to me on the i want to be a firefighter level is all. That's fine. I have no problem with that. In the same way, I have no problem with any young person who saw the Spice Girls, liked what they saw and enjoyed the music. They were pitched at a certain demographic and, like it or not, it was hugely successful. I agree. In my opinion though the village people will always be bigger pop icons than the Spice Girls.

I agree. In my opinion though the village people will always be bigger pop icons than the Spice Girls. I have no allegiance to either and you're entitled to your opinion, but like it or not, the Spice Girls were a global cultural phenomenon on a much larger scale than the Village People ever were. Hell, their debut album sold 23 million alone...then they got bigger!! Sorry, but they're the facts. Global phenomonans have been more easily had in recent times though. Spice Girls sold more records. Girls with disposable change in modern times has been the real phenomonon in my opinion to the complete detriment of the music industry but that's another story. Look at the awesome stuff you brought as a kid compared to the throwaway stuff todays teens spend they're money on. If you play YMCA in a stadium you will see a true global phenomonon that no Spice Girls song will ever match.

If you play YMCA in a stadium you will see a true global phenomonon that no Spice Girls song will ever match. ELP's Fanfare For The Common man has been played and embraced in more stadiums for more events than probably any other in sports history. That does not make them a global phenomenon either. I'm not trying to downplay the VP's success, but you tend to elevate anyone you like to mythical god-like status simply because you say so. I'm not elevating anything. VP have atleast one song that is a cultural phenomonon which will help them forever outlast the Spicce Girls in pop history.

No different than the Spice Girls being a girl group and their concept being aimed at a certain demographic. The Village People concept was initially pitched to the gay audience by highlighting popular gay fantasy personas....and you say you related to that from their picture? I didn't know what gay was really. It appealed to me on the i want to be a firefighter level is all. Which one was the firefighter?

VP have atleast one song that is a cultural phenomonon which will help them forever outlast the Spicce Girls in pop history. You mean Victor Willis and a bunch of session vocalists? Like Peter Whitehead.

The Village People were scabs without integrity and the late 70s Milli Vanilli. Milli Vanilli ?? Why you always so harsh on the Village people ? I doubt Milli Vanilli could put on a live show like the one i saw the Village people do granted i don't think it was the original line up but still it was bloody good. Best onstage group dynamics outside of maybe KISS and even then. I haven't experienced better live stage presence ever.

I'm told the Lava Club has a big dance floor.... I don't need a lot of space to bust some moves.

Milli Vanilli ?? Why you always so harsh on the Village people ? The Village People didn't sing on their own albums (like Milli Vanilli), mimed in concert (there's integrity for ya) and put the costumes of departed members on replacement members (like the latter day Kiss you call scabs?). Who sang ? Nobody mimed when i saw them LIVE in concert ? Their a disco band same rules not even come close to applying as they do for rock bands. Ye of little faith !

But you put Milli Vanilli and Village people in the same sentence not me.
Village people is mainly Victor Willis and some ring ins big deal.
This is somewhat legitimate unlike Milli Vanilli situation is it not ?

Just saying.....Lost was fucking fantastic. If the ending didn't spoon feed the more dumb among us into a comfortable and cosy conclusion then nothing can be done about that. Time to start recognising when something is beyond your comprehension. Lesson over, remember I told ya!!!

Time to start recognising when something is beyond your comprehension. Lesson over, remember I told ya!!! Currently watching and highly enjoying " American horror story ". Great to see Dylan McDermot back on my screen. Jessica Lange is sublime as a kicker if anyone needed one. Lost like True Blood you could pick as ordinary a mile off.

But you put Milli Vanilli and Village people in the same sentence not me. That means I should have faith in the Village people? So it's not a big deal if it's someone you like? This is somewhat legitimate unlike Milli Vanilli situation is it not ? Miming in concert is not legitimate, no matter who's doing it. It's more accepted in pop / disco music though in certain circumstances isn't it ?

It's more accepted in pop / disco music though in certain circumstances isn't it ? It happens more in those genres, which is their shame, but it is unacceptable in any form in concert. I beg to differ -:

What the fuck are you trying to say by posting that? He simply couldn't perform live. He's a dancer in that clip, nothing more.

What the fuck are you trying to say by posting that? He simply couldn't perform live. He's a dancer in that clip, nothing more. Even the greatest of them all. Same rules simply don't apply nearly as hard and fast to pop / dance / disco as it does to rock n roll / hard rock / heavy metal.

It's cheating paying customers. Anyone from any genre that mimes when supposed to be singing live is ripping people off. And rappers that perform without live music

And rappers that perform without live music This has no bearing on my opinion of miming. Miming for people who pay to see you perform live is bullshit. Period. On a related note, as a musician, I find rap to be a very 'unmusical' thing. Always have. O.k. Fair enough on both points. I still think Can't stop the music and Macho Man are awesome disco pop songs.

The singing should be his priority in fact, but instead he prefers to jiggle around like a fool.

I remember the controversy over some of MJ's shows and the fact he'd have his hand over his mic when he sang (alluding to the fact he was miming all his performances).

I remember the controversy over some of MJ's shows and the fact he'd have his hand over his mic when he sang (alluding to the fact he was miming all his performances). Both he and Janet were found to be doing it. No wonder she exposed her breast. Distraction.
