Charlie benetant (always screw his name up but from anthrax and sod) Dave Lombardo Gene Hoglan I only met Benante on a few occasions; big KISS fan and would go to conventions and we talked at the KISS Unplugged as I mentioned earlier in the thread... No real exposure to any other thrash players except Lars, whom I discussed earlier. Sorry.

Matt Sorum - Liked some of his playing with GNR and Velvet Revolver. Never worked with him. (7.5) Ray Luzier - Great chopsy player. Really liked his live playing with Roth. Never worked with him. (8.5) Walt Woodward III - Only familiar with The Scream and he was with a band years before called Americade. Typical LA rock player. RIP (7) Atma Anur - Good funky player. Only familiar with some of his Kotzen work. (8) Virgil Donati - Tremendous player. Very serious skills. Needs a high profile gig - has been content to make a name as a session guy and clinicican. (9.5) Mike Baird - Decent pop drummer. Will never understand what was going through Perry's head when he canned the rhythm section of Valory/Smith. Stupid powerplay. (7) Les Binks - Along with Simon Phillips, the best player to ever hold a pair of sticks for Priest. Love his playing on HELL BENT (my first exposre to the band when it came out in '78). Love his playing on Unleashed. Too much skill for his own good and it cost him the gig. (9) Dave Holland - ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (6) Steve Riley - Saw him with WASP and LA GUNS over the years. Nice enough guy and a solid player. (7) Tony Richards - No exposure other then the debut and live footage before Riley joined. (7) Clive Burr - Unsung hero who was a fantastic player. First major drummer I ever met. (He was at a local club with the entire band the night before a gig opening for Priest. He sat with myself & another drummer bud of mine and was pretty well shot in the ass when Steve and Bruce carried him out of the club, with them under each arm.) Very influential player to me and it broke my heart to read interviews with him just prior to his passing... he had a very sad run the last 15-20 years of his life. Great great player.... (9) Nicko McBrain - At the time of the announcement I was so bummed by Clive's dismisal. Nick came in and added his own twist & spark to the material. Got to meet Nick at the same club in '83 for thr first time and then show after show for many years on tour through the 80's and 90's. One of the funniest people I've ever met and very warm hearted. I still remember a show where the band was just killing it but I had remembered that during the show, Nick had a minor flub during "Afraid To Shoot Strangers". After the show we were sitting backstage on flight cases as the band made it's way back and Nick sees me and says, "How about that my friend...the old man has still got it, eh ?" I said, "Yep...loved it...but what happened in the middle of ATSS ?" Nick: "What" Me: "You dicked up the middle of ATSS.." Nick: "Whotttttt ? I did not!". At that point 'Arry is making his way down the hall and Nicko says to him, "'Arry...did I fuck up Afraid To Shoot Strangers ?" Steve looks at me and then looks at Nick and says "Yes you did Nick" as he walks by me and winks. Nick goes "Fuck me then... I guess I did." I'll never forget that. LOL Love Nicko - haven't seen him in some time...hope to see him again this upcoming tour. (9)

Chad Smith - Not a Peppers fan but love Chad's playing. Hit's lika a sonofabitch - big guy. I'm 6' 1" and he stood over me by about 5-6 inches. Crazy sense of humor and major points for being a KISS diehard. (8)
Kenny Aronoff - great session guy - love his playing but have never met him or seen him live (8)
Ian McDonald - Paice ? Wallace ? Haughland ? Sure..... McDonald...no. I know him as keys/sax guy. Jan Hammer isn't a real drummer either - get the hint. Same for Mutt Lange.
Dennis Elliott - Good solid pocket player. Saw him live a few times - never met him. (7.5)
Mark Shulman - Great well rounded player. Met him during the Foreigner reunion in the early 90's. His work with Pink is great as well. (8)
Jos Zoomer - Saw him play with Vandenberg opening for Ozzy (first week Jake joined the band - looked like a scared kid). They smoked Ozzy that night. Good players. Liked Zoomer's playing. Because of both him and Bozzio, I briefly had a double bass kit where all of the toms were roto toms...fun to play. Different but some what limiting sound. Wish I still had them though to mess with. (7.5)
Don Brewer - GFR was a few years ahead of my time...never saw them live.... but he has always been a solid player and singer. (7.5)

Ian was Foreigner's drummer for the first 3 albums was he not? I think playing on Feels Like The First Time - confirms that you are a drummer.

Canadian Edition Part 1: John Rutsey - Liked his playing on the RUSH debut. Basic but solid. (7) Neal Peart - The Professor. Childhood hero. Very fortunate to work with him a few times in the 90's. I don't get intimidated...just not my nature...but the "weight" of meeting him face to face (after talking to him on the phone prior tour) was a big deal for me after all of those years admiring his work. Groundbreaking player and such a major influence to so many thru the 79's and 80's especially. Very humble, very shy, very friendly - just freaks out over the star treatment. Very candid when he warms up and is comfortable. On the COUNTERPARTS tour, I remember going to a show and meeting with him at soundcheck (presented him with an award). Sat in his rehearsal room...small kit... just talking for about an hour. I remember asking him about the night's set list since I hadn't seen anything posted backstage. He was one to say, "Wait an see...you'll ruin the fun." So before we went out to our seats he says, "Why...what did you want to hear ?" I said "Hopefully something woodsy from my youth." He smiled and said, "You should be pleased..." He made sure our seats were extremely close BUT stage side where we could see him perfectly in line with a view of him over his ride cymbal. Lifeson's acoustic intro to "The Trees" starts and I'm already with a lump in the throat. lol The song is flawless and as it winds down and ends, Neil stands, looks over at me, brings his sticks to his temple in a salute and smiles ear to ear. I was just done. My childhood hero acknowledged me with a salute and a smile in front of 15000 people on my favorite RUSH song. (ha) When I got home that night and tried to explain the days events to my ex all I could do was say, "I can't begin to tell you what it meant to me." (Had tears in my eyes... huge day for me) (9) Gil Moore - Enjoyed his playing and singing. Saw him quite a bit from ALLIED FORCES thru SPORT OF KINGS. (7.5) Greg "Fritz" Hinz - Funny guy and a good player. Hung with him a few times on the US leg of the LONG WAY TO HEAVEN tour. Liked that he played traditonal grip on a rock gig. (7.5) Randy Cooke & Jeff Burrows - No exposure other than the studio recordings (and the SARS Toronto dvd for Burrows). Matt Frenette - Liked some of his playing with Loverboy and actaully love his guest track on Helix's cover of Nazareth's "Dream On". Great tune. Never met Matt though - heard he was a hellion with vices in his younger days. (7) Fritz is in the vid...Matt guested...

No real exposure to any other thrash players except Lars, whom I discussed earlier. Sorry. The other two like Portnoy are masters of lower half playing while being very proficient with hands as well. If there's more extreme drummers you'd appreciate I suspect it'd be them.

Really ? You don't know any more famous international drummers ? Now you are having me weed through guys that play the rodeo circuit from Calagry to Alberta.... What's next, top touring drummers of Japan ? Jerry Mercer - Always liked Jerry's playing... the grand old man of hard rock drummers. AW got a lot of exposure here the year I graudated with The Nature Of the Beast. Missed a great chance to see them live locally with Nazareth. (7.5) Dave Betts - Saw Honeymoon Suite live 2 times... assume he was on board then. (7)
Mike Shotten / Brian Doerner / Brian Gillstrom / Neal Busby - Zero exposure....had to google... Did talk to Doerner's brother "Doc" a few times during US tours in the mid 80's. LOL Darrell Dwarf- Saw TKD as last minute tour replacements for your boy Ace and The Comet on MAIDEN's '88 US tour. (7) Darren Smith - Own a few Scarem albums/dvds and Hess's solo record. Good player - solid. Love this track in particular. Wish more of their material was this ballsy. Much of their material is hit or miss for me. (7.5)

Good to hear. Do you agree with Duff about Steven Adler. Not in the least. He's being kind to an old bandmate he liked. He may have been suitable pre-sucess but post dismissal, drug issues, stroke, etc he is a hack. (See Peter Criss) Sorum SHOULD do the tour but he and Rose can't stand each other...

Well he doesn't have to say that Adler is the best groove drummer ever to be kind. Now there's an idea - Peter Criss drum for Guns N' Roses.

Most of the guys I worked with were established players in the 70's and up thru the mid/late 80's. I saw alot of openers but honestly most are just that, openers...dime a dozen. (Or, in all fairness, nothing about the band and it's material let them show thru.) The good ones were soon headlining rather quickly after that... I keyed on name players for the most part. Greg D'Angelo - The Pelican.. Decent player...DeGrasso SLAUGHTERED him in WWhite Lion; shame that era was short lived. (7.5) Paul Monroe - Saw him twice with XYZ...eh... (7) Johnny Dee - Johnny's a good egg. Always working always staying busy. Not really a Britny or Doro fan but love Johnny. Very good straight forward player. Good guy. Very versatile player. Really enjoyed his early days with former UFO-er's Way & Chapman in Waysted. We still keep in touch every week or so. Recording a new record with BF. (7.5) Niklas Sigevall , Billy Dior , Khurt Maier : Saw all three in the respective Electric Boys, D'Molls & Salty Dog... Couldn't tell you a distinguishing thing about any of them.... Ken "Dimwit" Montgomery - zero exposure....

I love Khurt Maier's drumming here. This is how drums should be produced on an album - in the forefront and not mixed low where you can barely hear the drumming. Peter Collins is the producer here.

For me, this was the better band - but yes, many of these types of bands at the time has sleazy sounding singers.
