What's the deal with Andrew Sgambati? Sometimes I think that guy is some kind of Gooch victim and other times I think he just isn't being entirely honest with his role in all of this KISS video hoarder drama.

KISS shut him down when he crossed the line by selling posters advertising his Hot In The Shade tour edit. He’d even shipped a bunch to Bruce who had signed them (and presumably been paid for that).
He then panicked and instead of saying hey guys really sorry about this but KISS won’t let me do it, he made up a ridiculous anecdote (also see : KISS fan pissing in someone’s sink) about his laptop being stolen from a coffee shop. To which everyone said, so just restore it from a backup, or hey let’s do a crowdfund to get this guy a new laptop! and it quickly unravelled and he had to admit what happened.
The thing you have to remember about all these hardcore guys - Scambaity, Rat Rosley et al, it’s all their little KISStard fantasy to one day work for the band. That’s the reason they work so hard on these little fan projects, they have a fantasy that Gene and Paul will call them into their little office and say thanks for being the number one KISS fan aren’t you wonderful and here’s a bunch of money and we’re going to put your widdle fan project out as an official thing!
Which is a completely sensible, albeit total fanboi thing to think.
Thing is - they forget that KISS don’t give a fuck about their music, or their old tours, or documenting their history, or anything.
Only thing they care about is money, preferably by signing deals where they have zero risk and get a massive licensing fee at the start. They don’t give a fuck is the product actually sells, they have their money.
So it’s different to bands like Whitesnake and Maiden where fan stuff has been licensed and actually used.
The guy running the Whitesnake YouTube stuff for instance just had a fan channel for years and made some homemade music videos with old footage etc and Coverdale liked them and put them on DVDs and now the guy runs the official Whitesnake channel etc.
I know Bruce also gets Andrew to do a bunch of official stuff for him too. But that ain’t KISS. KISS hate their fans, they’d never work with a fan like that.
It was always Radley’s dream to sit down and talk to the band as well. And his ego went out of control when he scammed $250,000 out of KISStards and he thought that made him the official KISStorian Guru and Gene and Paul would sit down with him and answer questions about what happened to this guitar strap between May and July 1976 when this stud fell off and you can see the stitching is a different color here! As if they’d even remember any insane details like that. They can’t even remember what song is on what album, you think they’re going to remember details like that that are only interesting to Uberfans?

Thank you for the breakdown.
Yes, the laptop being stolen lie was fucked up, which he doubled down on when a couple of people didn't believe him, so that made it all worse.
I agree about Andrew and Ros hoping that they would get on the KISS payroll and that Paul and Gene would be so grateful to have KISS fans so knowledgeable working for them. I think KISS learned their lesson there with hiring KISS fans when Michael Brandvold worked for them and got fired. Same with Robert V. Conte.
I just think there is far more to the A&E stolen footage that Andrew knows about than he is revealing and has played the victim. Also a few people have suggested that Andrew is Sam Loomis. That Andrew got burned by Gooch with buying something that was illegal and so he said fuck it and Loomis was his revenge against Gooch. This is an entirely reasonable claim.
One way or another, I don't think Andrew's hands are clean in this whole Goochgate. Happy to proven wrong though.

Exactly this, and well-stated. There's almost like a secret handshake among the hardcore Kiss guys, and they get some kind of weird thrill by either hoarding something, or by making everyone else think they know some earth-shattering secret information.

And then they started backstabbing each other to the point that everyone is guilty of wrong doing, including Andrew - even if Gooch is the ringleader. I still think it is hilarious that Gooch thought he was sitting on a goldmine with The Elder video clip, but KISS didn't care about it and even KISS fans were meh about it. It wasn't the holy grail Gooch thought it was. So he threatened to burn it - until I believe it was Julian who spent way too much money for it if I am not mistaken that he was the buyer.

That was hysterical, for sure! I may not have all this exactly correct, and the secrecy these guys crave clouds things. Julian ended up buying the I video, but says he didn't pay $10K for it. Of course we'll never know what he paid for it. He was going to use it to promote his Elder book, which he may or may not have done. Then he had no use for the tape, and sold it to a group of guys, which included Andrew. They 'graciously' posted it on YouTube, but of course with a permanent watermark, so we'd all know who the cool kids were.

I know he didn't pay 10K, but it was still in that ballpark and not worth it at all, but I guess it was worth it to him at the time or he just didn't want the footage to burn - even though Gooch had numerous copies of the video and Julian didn't actually buy the one and only copy. Yes, they tried to come across like heroes for posting it. Meanwhile, they were saying fuck you to KISS fans for YEARS about sharing anything and circle jerking to rare KISS videos in their little club.
