Enjoy! I recently released an EP, Lateral Moves, of which the inspiration was to keep everything simple and not get bogged down in technology. So this is an old-school drum machine, with a bass line and guitar, with minimal overdubs. There is a rhythm guitar dubbed during the solo, and I doubled the ending, with one guitar clean, and another with the Michael Schenker-esque 'half-cocked' wah. To maintain a live feel, I play the parts all the way through, and edit if necessary. This song was a personal benchmark for me in that the bass track was all one take, no punch-ins or edits. I believe it was Take 4 (out of 5). I'm a perpetual student of music, and wanted to educate myself on the players/writers who influenced the guys I learned from. I wasn't that familiar with the Meters, as they never had any major hits. (Major hits being defined as tunes I heard as a kid at the skating rink. ). I bought a 5-disc set of their classic albums, which were a treasure trove filled with lots of influential sounds. So that's the play on words with the song title: Meet Her = Meters. The drum programming in late 80's New Jack Swing is the pinnacle, in my opinion. I didn't program anything that elaborate, as I didn't want to detract from the groove or the guitar. Sometimes I intentionally 'borrow' a beat; this one wasn't intentional, but it is similar to Straight Up by Paula Abdul. So this was my homage to some funky 70's guitar riffing, with some 80's drum programming. The solo has multiple Joe Pass quotes, and a nod to Eddie Van Halen.

Nice job! Dig the bass work, too! Thanks, Joma! I put a lot of work into bass, and always enjoy it. As I mentioned, I was thrilled with this one as it's all one take; a first for me.
