In this day and age of the music industry and the fact that albums don't sell as well as they used to, are you fine with bands just releasing 4 songs here and there or do you prefer that the work is still put into creating albums?
For me, it's all about the album. Downloading a few songs here and there just isn't the same and I don't buy into the notion that an album only has 4 good songs anyway and a ton of filler, so why not just release the 4 good songs. Similar to a movie, I prefer to hear the music the way the artist intended for us to hear it. I have never been a "singles" kind of music listener and I will always prefer the album.

Definitely albums. Single songs just take everything out of context for me. It'd be like just randomly watching scenes from movies. I agree completely. I would almost prefer that the band retires as opposed to throwing us a bone every year or two with a couple of songs.

Every album tells a story.

I need the whole package to go along with it. I know I'm old fashioned and Bob Lefsetz thinks I need to die for this but fuck it, I've got thousands of albums to keep me happy if that's the way it goes.quote] Couldn't agree more. It was hard enough adjusting to the vinyl to cd craze. (Smaller artwork/packaging, etc.) I like the entire aspect of an album and it's variety of songs.

To me that really depends on the album and the artist.
Most of the time I prefer the album. But let's be honest, there are a lot of great one or two hit wonders out there that couldn't write an albums worth of good material if their life depended on it! And personally, I got tired of spending money for a cd because I love one or two songs only to discover that the other 8 songs are total crap. In those cases, I prefer just to download the single. To me it doesn't have to be one way or the other.

Well some bands/artists are not worthy of an album purchase right from the get go. I will always give an artist a chance, but if that album only has one good song on it ala they are a one hit wonder band, I will certainly preview the next album before buying it or not. I spent a lot of time at listening stations before the internet.

I can see what Isis is saying, does anyone need to hear more from A Flock Of Seagulls than I Ran and Wishing (I Had A Photograph Of You), no they don't. I just prefer bands who could actually sustain my interest for more than 3.5 minutes... Absolutely and I do too but at the same time I really like having those handful of songs that crappy artists do right.

Largely (meaning about 99.5% of the time) I'm an album-or-nothing guy. On rare occasion I'll dig on some download of a band I otherwise don't give a shit about. That's more Julie's thing than mine, although I'm awfully glad to have many of those songs around. But left to my devices it's probably not something I'd seek out if someone wasn't seeking it out for me...
