They did a successful five year tour running fake vocal tracks, with two impersonators in the band, doing the same tired paint-by-numbers reunion tour show and make a shitload of money.
All about the makeup and the gimmicks the whole time?
Or do you draw a line in the sand and consider them to be a “real band” up to a certain point?

The lip syncing is where I draw the line. I've cut them a lot of slack (most of us have,) but lip syncing is unforgivable.

KISS as a viable recording act ended with Revenge. The years since have been an attempt at recreating their glory days. Outside of their foray into Grunge/Alt Rock, KISS hasn't done anything new in 30 years.

It should of ended after he Reunion Tour. They could've gone out on top & ended it on a good note. Sadly it didn't & we got the shitshow that has existed since

I think in many ways they did prove the critics right in the end.
Who cares about longevity or how much money Paul and Gene are making. KISS weren't viewed as respectable and were looked at as not even being a real band, but more of a gimmick and in many ways they were right and I say that as an objective fan.
KISS ended in a way that wasn't respectable and they certainly weren't a real band with two nobodies dressed up as Ace and Peter and KISS playing to a tape.
Forget The KISS Army - The Critics Won.

YEP, in the end KISS did basically what they've always done, let down their fanbase.
