10k song is okay if unremarkable. It’s got a hook, it’s okay.
Can’t even remember the second song that got previewed.
Cherry Medicine is bloody terrible.

I like Cherry Medicine, too... It would be better if he could sing better as an elderly dude, but it's catchy.

The chorus of Cherry Medicine is really close to the chorus of Stacy's Mom. When it gets to the chorus, sing, "Stacy's mom has got it going on." Fits right in.

On FAQ, the Tommy Boys say its ripped off from Oasis. Even though Ace has probably never heard it and maybe not even Stacy's Mom. But yeah, that'll happen when you go for a poppy sound, it'll probably sound like a few of the other billion poppy tunes with a similar riff progression.
Heard Cosmic Heart now, too. Also awesome. So far I'm really impressed. I'll want a few goes with the album proper before I rank it in all time, but I already think the half album I've heard is better than Spaceman and Invader. I just wish it had been recorded 10 years ago when Ace had a little more left in the tank vocally...and hell, on guitar, too. That's about all the KGC has left to cling to is the deaf elderly guy with bad annunciation when he talks normal, much less sings, isn't a maestro vocalist today. If recorded before the man was a shell of himself...well, now I'm getting ahead of myself. Again, let's hear the whole thing proper a few times. Whatever the case, I'm quite pleased.

I ordered 3 different covers...not the Cherry Medicine cover, and a CD. Getting the CD tomorrow. One record Monday...dunno about the others. MNRK kinda sucks. They gave me shipped emails, but the tracking shows usps hasn't yet received the shit. Dicks should get the shit to you on release day or before for a pre-order. But they already have your money, so what do they care? First world problems and all that..

I think the two alt covers were MNRK exclusives...and to be fair, I've bought a couple albums on Scamazon recently that didn't show up on release day either. Luckily I didn't care that much about getting them right away.

I have never had any problems with Amazon Canada. Maybe Amazon US is more problematic due to a much larger customer base.

10k Volts - we've had this for months. Cool song...dig it.
Walking On The Moon - also not new. Like this more than 10k. Cool riff.
Cosmic Heart - Song is badass. Sweet, heavy riff. Catchy, anthemic chorus. Vocals are in his range to not be distracting. Song reminds me of Into The Vortex, but interesting and cool. What I didn't like about that song, this one does right.
Cherry Medicine - I think this tune is catchy as hell. Song would kick ass if he had his vocal abilities of 20 years ago, or even 10. The vocals bring it down a bit, but grading on a curve, it's quite cool.
Back Into My Arms - Love this song! I don't think the vocals are terribly far off from the demo. Badass!
Fightin' For Life - Song rules. Vocals sound like Ace of 10 years ago. Wish they all sounded this good. Banger of a tune...might be as good as Foxy And Free, which is my fave Ace tune since Trouble Walkin'...the album, not necessarily the song. This far in, my favorite song on the album.
Blinded - So far, my least favorite song...but would probably be one of the better songs on the last two albums. It has its moments. But for all the shit talking about Lara songs, the lyrics to this one stand out as a bit cheesy.
Constantly Cute - I was bracing myself for this one from comments on the FAQ....the lyrics are retarded, but like Cherry...it's catchy as hell. We'll call this one a guilty pleasure.
Life Of A Stranger - The slower tempo songs bring out the worst on Ace's current vocal abilities, but it's a decent song with some interesting key step progressions. Grading on a curve, it's a cool tune. 10 or 15 years ago it woulda been a kick ass tune. Once the vocals set in, it'll probably grow.
Up In The Sky - This tune jams...I dig the groovy change ups it does. Catchy, kick ass song.
Stratosphere - Obligatory instrumental. Kinda short, but cool and effective. Like it better than the last few...
Over all, it lives up to the hype to me. I think it blows away Spaceman and Invader. Not sure I want to put it ahead of Anomaly yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses it. Ace closer to his prime in ability, it probably easily surpasses Anomaly and rivals Trouble Walkin', which I love and think is better than half of the KISS catalog.

Just gave the album my first thorough listen and I was quite disappointed.
I totally get it that many albums require repeated listens to determine whether or not certain tracks might grow on the listener, but I just found most of it so bland and uninspiring, particularly Ace's flat, autotuned, monotone vocals, and boring solos. I won't even start on the dreadful lyrics.

Ace Frehley - 10,000 Volts Review:
1. 10,000 Volts.
I was sort of disappointed with this song - it is OK and I understand why other people dig it, but just not my jam personally especially for a first single.
2. Walking on the Moon
I dig this song. One of my faves on the album.
3. Cosmic Heart
My second favorite song on the album. Great riff and harmonies.
4. Cherry Medicine
I don't like this song much at all. Just has a modern rock style that I didn't dig when that stuff was popular.
5. Back In My Arms Again
I was excited about this song, because I dug the original demo. It is good and I am glad he redid it, but it does suffer a bit due to his age now singing it and the somewhat different music style of the musicians now playing it vs the original musicians on the demo. In other words, it should have been on an 80's Ace album. However I am glad that it now exists officially.
6. Fighting for Life
I know everyone is digging this song as maybe the best song on the album, but I am going to be the odd duck here. I much prefer the slow groove rocker or mid tempo songs in general than more faster type songs, but totally get why people are hyped about this one - it's a strong song, but just not something that I would lean towards to loving.
7. Blinded
This is the worst song on the album for me. Made even worse than they used blinded by science per the Thomas Dolby song. Just nothing about this that I like
8. Constantly Cute
I really like this song. Yes, cheesy as fuck - but it totally works.
9. Life of a Stranger
It is an interesting cover and is well done. It almost sounds like an Ozzy ballad.
10. Up in the Sky
I love this fucking song. It is just a great Ace Frehley songs period. Strong performances, groove and background harmonies. It just all comes together perfectly.
11. Stratosphere
Cool instrumental. I would have preferred something more like Fractured III, but I am not that big on instrumentals anyway with some exceptions. I love Genghis Khan for example.
My overall thoughts are that Ace has stepped it up here for the most part. I am not a fan really of Spaceman, so he clearly delivered above and beyond over that. This is not some massive decline despite what some on the FAQ would have you believe with the obvious agenda they have. Up In The Sky as I mentioned really is one of the strongest songs he has done in a while.
As for the complaint about the lyrics. You worship KISS - who may have the worst lyrics in rock history. So you are just looking like a fucking idiot if NOW you are all serious about lyrics. As if this is some deep heavy lyrics here:
Shock me, make me feel better Shock me, put on your black leather Shock me, we can come together
The lyrics and songwriting in general are entirely in keeping with Ace's songwriting history. I know Ace's limitation as a songwriter going in to all his albums. So people really shouldn't be complaining here.
Steve Brown has done a great job here and no, it doesn't sound like a Trixter album. I have listened to all of those and it isn't the same. People claiming that don't know what the fuck they are talking about.
My only issue with the production and this is more about my own preferences - they went for a more modern rock production style where as I would have preferred they went for a more classic rock sound or basically try to recapture the sound of the 78 album. It doesn't ruin the album for me, but if I was gonna produce the new Ace album - I would go for a 70's style album all the way.
Yes, Ace is older. He talks and sings a bit differently due to that age - but Ace still brings the charm that comes with his vocals. So I have no real issue there. He was never a great singer in a technical sense. Ultimately you know you are listening to the same Ace Frehley now as you did in years past. It isn't some major decline like say Paul Stanley.
All in all, my expectations were met and happily so. I knew I wasn't going to be loving all 11 songs, but that hopefully the highs would be high and the lows wouldn't be that bad. Ace should be proud of the album he has released and his fans should dig it for the most part if you have enjoyed his albums in varying degrees from 1987 to now.
If you have any questions or want further detail on anything - ask away.
