Skid Row have announced that they are amicably parting ways with singer Erik Grönwall. The band shared the following message this morning:
"Today Skid Row and Erik Grönwall jointly announce that Erik will step down as the vocalist for Skid Row. Longtime friend Lzzy Hale of Halestorm will be taking over vocal duties for the upcoming scheduled four concerts.
"Erik has decided that the travel and rigors of the road is not conducive to his overall health and recovery, and wants to focus on a lifestyle that is more amenable for his well-being, healing and family.
"Skid Row is proud of what they have created and accomplished with Erik over the past two years and we wish nothing but the best to him and his health. To celebrate the last two years the band will be releasing a live album that perfectly captures this moment of time in the band's 35+ year history, to be announced soon."
Says Erik: "I got the opportunity to join this incredible band 6 months after my treatment against leukemia. And one month after that I was on a world tour with Skid fucking Row. Wow! It was a dream come true. However, it proved challenging touring the world with an impaired immune system, which is a result of my bone marrow transplant. I respect and understand that Skid Row is a touring band but since I can't prioritize my health being in the band, I have decided that it's better for me to step aside.
"I love Skid Row, I have nothing but respect for the guys in the band but I love and respect my health more. I'm getting stronger and healthier every day but after consulting my doctor I need to allow myself more time to recover, which I can't do as the lead singer of Skid Row. That's why I have reached the tough decision to move on.
"I want to thank the guys for this incredible opportunity. And I want to thank all the Skid Row fans who accepted me as the lead singer of this iconic band. Health first!" - EG

I understand the health concerns, but I wonder what REALLY happened here to contribute to his decision. Skid Row can't seem to maintain a lead singer. Just end it with one final run with Bach.

Ya knowing nothing about Skid Row sure seems odd with just 4 shows left on current itinerary. Right...that is very odd. I get leaving because staying healthy on the road all the time might be challenging, but why not finish 4 fucking shows then call it? All the same, those would be interesting shows with the Halestorm chick singing... And agree with HM, at this point either just get Bach back or call it a day. Them playing the replace Ace game, especially at lead singer, is just an odd look. That's some Spinal Tap-like shit...

I get not wanting to work with Bach, but does anyone really want to be yet another singer for the band? I mean sure some nobody will jump at the chance, but at this point - Skid Row is damaged goods. Call it a day or reunite.

I don't know anything about the female singer and it is only a few shows, but I have seen some people comment saying that hiring a woman is just pathetic. Stupid in my view.

I'm not much of a fan of her band, but I know she can wail. I will look for some video from these shows just to check it out. Might potentially be cool enough for them to go that route permanently if they could...but her band is bigger than SR at this point so outside of doing them a favor here, can't imagine it being worth her time.

Was Erik essentially their attempt at a Bach wannabe - so kind of too late to find yet another singer that sounds like Bach?

Don't know that it's too late to find another, but how many dudes that can sing like that want to be in Skid Row? Whether it's just bad luck or not, they go through singers at about the same rate as Vinnie... You have to start thinking maybe it's them that's the problem, whether it's fair or not.

Whether it's just bad luck or not, they go through singers at about the same rate as Vinnie... You have to start thinking maybe it's them that's the problem, whether it's fair or not. He expanded on his decision to leave. Ya, it's more than just his health. "In 2021 I was undergoing treatment against leukemia and that gave me a superpower called perspective. I decided to use that perspective and write down the values I wanted to live by for the rest of my life. On top of that list it says “health first”. I’ve had to look at that list a lot of times this last year, questioning if I’m really living according to my values. At the end of the day I realized the answer was no. "As a result of the treatments and transplant my immune system was impaired. You can think of my immune system as a 4 year old kid bringing home all kinds of viruses from preschool. It takes awhile to build up that resistance again but my immune system is getting stronger every day. However I’m still doing regular check ups (blood tests) at the hematology department in Sweden, which has proved challenging while keeping up with the Skid Row schedule. I have way too much respect for my medical history to push myself to the limit. "I love Skid Row, I have nothing but respect for the guys in the band but I love and respect my health more. I understand that Skid Row is a touring band but like I told the guys: 'if I can’t prioritize my health, then I’m not the right guy for the job'. "Please note, I’m NOT sick and it’s not that I don’t want to tour. I love being on the road. And of course we have tried to find the right balance together but at the end of the day I realized that it was better for me to step aside."So now I’m going to focus on my full recovery, and come back stronger than ever. Meanwhile I’m finalizing my biography. And I’m going to start writing my own music again. "Lastly, once again thank you to everyone who accepted me as the singer of this iconic band. "Always remember that no job, no money, no fame is worth your health or well being. Health first always. I owe this decision to the guy in the second picture and I’m proud to be able to say that I kept my promise to him. Health first!

To be fair to the notion of only 4 dates left and waiting till after those to be done...I just noticed those 4 dates are spread out till June and over a month away for the first.

You ever wonder SKID ROW is always blaming the "OTHER" guy, Yet they have gone thru 4 singers in last 10 years maybe its "THEM". There's 1 hold out, Rachel Bolan, as I stated before BRING BACK BACH and end it right.
SKID ROW just played here (Erik on Vocals (March 12th) in the 6000+ Seat Arena with BUCKCHERRY (Co-Headline Tour) and the Attendance was (Approx) 500/6000+. They had to put the Stage near the Middle of the Arena AND Cut Off most the Balcony so people got a free upgrade, I know 3 people that went and told me.
