Bruce Dickinson says he doesn’t care about categorizing music into different genres or sub-genres in a new interview with Atmosfera Magazine.
The Iron Maiden frontman responded to a question about the "fusion" of heavy metal genres: “Heavy metal is not a pure, complete, definable form of music. I mean that it is made up of a large number of elements in itself. Now, for what one person considers ‘heavy,’ there will be another who says ‘no, that's not heavy, that's classic rock.’ Now, we also have all these categories that I have no fucking interest in at all! What I mean is that when I listen to something, I only care that it is a good song.
I don't care if it's Sepultura, Scorpions, Cinderella or Uli Jon Roth; I don't care who it is as long as it's a good piece of music. That's just how it was when I was growing up, because we didn't have any of these ridiculous categories. What is it about having a hundred and fifty different styles of heavy metal? How many varieties of the herpes virus do you know? It's insane! I just listen and think, if that music moves me in some way. It's as simple as that.”

Thanks, Bruce.
I know loads of artists don't like being categorized, but for the record buying public, we might not even have enough money to buy all of YOUR records, let alone all the records in the world.
So we need those sign posts.
