As a big fan of the Carpenter original I had avoided this prequel based on tepid reviews from mostly fellow Carpenter fans. I snapped and gave it a spin a couple of days ago.
Pleasantly surprised !!! Without comparing it to an absolute classic I thought it was handled pretty well. I could even say I liked it. Putting the classic aside.....what did you think ?

Didn't like it as much as the 1982 version.

It was entertaining enough to watch but it was let down by some poor CGI, inconsistencies with the original, creature behaviour and having too many American characters for a Norwegian camp.

Without comparison to the original it was an ok film. I had no real issues with it aside from obvious CGI crap, now if you take it in with the original in mind... I really think it's may even move to good at that point. Now I'm not saying anything bad about the original, because this is about the sequel, and I really believe they could have tried to MTV jump cut us to death, but instead gave a pretty decent homage to a great film. The first one is by FAR superior and is one of my favorite films in my favorite genre, but this film is a good movie for so long after the first with so little involvement from Carpenter himself. I would be welcome to the same writing team and director tackling some other "thing" related stories, like maybe ten years down the line after the first film there's a risk of outbreak and no one is trustworthy. If they really wanna do it like Carpenter would, at the end it'd be revealed there was no danger of an outbreak of the creature until some heroic meddling let's it loose at the very end of the film. Anyway enough rambling about The Thing for now for me.
