35 years ago my stupid little 7-year-old life was forever changed. George Lucas would later go on to rape my memories (not really), but today is not that day. Today is the 35th anniversary of the original STAR WARS, a movie I slept through the first time I saw it, but, hey, we can forget that part. I finally "got it".

I saw all 3 at the cinema as a kid, loved them, had all the toys etc. For the life of me I can't form an attachment to them as an adult. Very odd.

I saw Star Wars for the first time probably around 4 - 5 years ago. When a friend loaned them to me he said it was a 'privilege' I was able to watch the films in the order intended.
I thought they were good films. Have not watched them since then but if I did I'd be more inclined to see the older films in the series (A New Hope, Empire etc).
Darth Vader still blows my mind.

Wait what?!?! Your "friend" told you to watch phantom manass first?!?!?! Is he really your worst enemy or what?

I wasn't at all affected by seeing those movies first.

Dute, don't destroy the fanboy myth that the prequels were unwatchable.

Dute, don't destroy the fanboy myth that the prequels were unwatchable. I dunno, dute must be stronger than me. If I were new to the series and someone gave me all six and told me to watch starting with Episode 1, I'd probably never make it all the way to IV-VI. If I didn't bail during TPM, AOTC's long scenes of nothing would surely do me in (and mind you, I actually liked AOTC).

Yeah, I'd still recommend watching them in release order to newbies as well, for that reason.

Dute, don't destroy the fanboy myth that the prequels were unwatchable. I didn't think they were terribly horrible, and I had (obviously) heard great things about Empire etc so I knew I had something cool to look forward to.

God, growing up as someone who LOVED the first 3 movies, when lucas started pissing on them I was upset. But when he made that steaming pile of shit Phantom Menace and called it Star Wars? I stopped calling myself a star wars fan and have become solely a trekkie (used to hold dual citizenship heh)
