Several problems have plagued the forthcoming film Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father from director Barry Levinson (who was a replacement for Nick Cassavetes) including a lawsuit from actor Joe Pesci, and uncertainty as to whether or not Lindsay Lohan would actually be part of the cast. Now it looks like the biggest problem plaguing the production is actually stopping the film dead in its tracks as Showbiz 411 (via SlashFilm) says the film has "simply hit the wall" with the promised financing that was said to be "coming from overseas" nowhere to be found. And with no money, that means there's no film.
Producer Marc Fiore has consistently reassured cast and crew that financing was on the way, but sufficient funds have not been found resulting in no payment for Levinson as director, and stars John Travolta (playing Gotti, Sr.) and Al Pacino. Now the project is officially on hold and production will likely not begin in January as was expected, especially since important production elements like sets, wardrobe and traditional development tasks have not yet been completed.
Sounds like quite the debacle for Fiore as a producer which is a real shame considering the strange assembly of talent, which also includes Chazz Palminteri and Ben Foster, that came together for the film. This production delay could mean losing some of the cast members, but who knows if the project will ever actually get back on its feet after what seems to be an irresponsible move by the producer.
