I cannot tell a lie...
If I were to go and dig out my Senior Year Book of Memories and open it up and show it to you, you would see the spot that says "Favorite Song" and you would see my answer to be, "Love Ain't No Stranger" by Whitesnake. This was in 1996, people! I was all into my Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and 311 (KISS, too...of course), but that was my all-time favorite song! LOL.

I'm a casual fan of Mr Coverdale et al. People born on September 22nd rock . I own the three studio albums he did with Purple, Whitesnake '87 (the UK version), a couple of 2 disc WS compilations and Coverdale/Page. I enjoy both the blues and the hairspray incarnations of the 'Snake and would like to get some of their remasters. Favourite song at the moment is: What's the story with Restless Heart? I read a brutal review of it in my uni newspaper back in the day ('Restless Stomach is more like it'- fuckin' student hipsters!) and DC doesn't seem to acknowledge the album at all.

I'm keen on Slide It In, the self-titled (or 87 as it were), and I really dig their latest.

Steve - the remasters are good but the "extra" tracks are hit or miss ie on Trouble you get the "Snakebite" EP but that is kinda useless if you already own the "Snakebite" album that came out in the states but even that is useless if you get the two disc set of Coverdale's first two solo albums.
Restless Heart was ment to be a solo album (I dont care what anyone says opening the album with a ballad was the WRONG move that song should have been number three or four on the album), but the label made him release it as a Whitesnake album thats why its called "David Coverdale and Whitesnake", in the WS cannon he does count it as a WS album thats why the roman symbol for ten is all over the cover and is huge on GTBB.

I'm not a fan of the Coverdale/Page album. The drumming is weak and totally ruins the songs.
My favourite Whitesnake albums are: Lovehunter, Ready an' Willing and Good to Be Bad. Stormbringer is my favourite Deep Purple album with David Coverdale on vocals.
I have not heard the two pre-Whitesnake albums (White Snake and Northwinds).

Not only that, but Restless Heart was mixed in a way that Coverdale was not happy with to sound more like Whitesnake as opposed to his plans for a solo album. He recently stated that Restless Heart would be re-released with a proper mix and bonus tracks.

I think Denny Carmassi is one of the best drummers and his work on C/P was fantastic. The album itself is the best thing that Page has done since Zeppelin and completely destroys Page/Plant.

I am sadly guilty of mostly only knowing the radio songs. So I think I'll listen to the two newest albums today sometime and report back with my thoughts.

Forevermore is amazing for a band at this point in their career and for the kind of music that Whitesnake makes. It's better than most of the classic bands releasing new albums - be it Aerosmith for example and yes, it fucking destroys every possible aspect of Monster.

Aerosmith, KISS, Van Halen and Black Sabbath SHOULD be selling more than Whitesnake. Nonetheless, Whitesnake has a better band than KISS and are making much better albums.

Whitesnake - Love Hunter

Whitesnake - Slip Of The Tongue
Slip Of The Tongue Kittens Got Claws Sweet Lady Luck Slow Poke Music Judgement Day Sailing Ships
Coverdale/Page

Whitesnake - Restless Heart
Don't Fade Away All In The Name Of Love Crying Can't Go On You're So Fine Take Me Back Again Women Trouble Blues Anything You Want
David Coverdale - Into The Light

Whitesnake - Good To Be Bad
Call On Me Lay Down Your Love Good To Be Bad Til The End Of Time
Whitesnake - Forevermore
All Out Of Luck Tell Me How I Need You (Shine A Light) Fare Thee Well Whipping Boy Blues Forevermore
In short, I prefer the more blues based version of Whitesnake - prior to 1987 or even Coverdale/Page over 1987 or Slip Of The Tongue. While Good To Be Bad and Forevermore are going for that 1987 sound, Whitesnake have become more blues based again, which was missing on Slip On The Tongue.
Overall my favorite albums are:
1. Come And Get It 2. Ready An' Willing 3. Slide It In 4. Coverdale/Page 5. Saints And Sinners 6. Love Hunter 7. Trouble 8. Forevermore 9. 1987 10. Northwinds 11. White Snake 12. Into The Light 13. Good To Be Bad 14. Slip Of The Tongue 15. Restless Heart 16. Snakebite

I'm keen on Slide It In, the self-titled (or 87 as it were), and I really dig their latest. The Slide It In era is my favorite. What's neat is, there was different personnel on the UK version than on the US version. John Sykes wasn't on the original release. I didn't know there were two versions out until a year ago or so. Forevermore was a solid effort I thought. I still listen to it a lot.

I've listened to a fair bit of them these last few days and I've gotta say they are NOT helping me banish thoughts of the married and therefore unobtainable. Sometimes a man's just gotta brood.

I've listened to a fair bit of them these last few days and I've gotta say they are NOT helping me banish thoughts of the married and therefore unobtainable. Sometimes a man's just gotta brood. Coverdale wrote this about Tawny Kitaen. Coverdale/Page - Over Now You said you'd give me love Instead you caused me pain You made me curse and slam the door And hang my head in shame But, it's over now, it's over now You talked to me of virtue And sang a song so sweet All I know is I could smell The perfume of deceit It's over now, it's over now You told me of your innocence And I believed it all But your best friend is your vanity And the mirror on the wall It's over now I turned away from what I heard And everything I saw Now I see the light of day I release the dog of war So whatcha gonna do When the truth pays you a call? How you gonna feel When you finally lose it all? How you gonna look Standing up against the wall Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna say [- From: www.elyrics.net -] When you feel the hammer fall? I'm gonna see you crawl You took your pills and washed them down And then you talked for hours I tried to build a garden But you trampled all the flowers And it's over now Wanting this, needing that Always after more, now that it's all over I release the dog of war I release the dog of war So whatcha gonna do When the truth pays you a call? How you gonna look Standing up against the wall? Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna say When you feel the hammer fall? Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna say Standing up against the wall? So whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna say Mamma, when you feel the hammer fall? So whatcha gonna do?

Thanks, I think...
Dammit, Coverdale, will you stop reading my mind?
I will never act on this in a month of Sundays, but you have no idea how much it sucks to have your concentration span ruined by a clever, funny and impossibly well spoken English rose, whose sodding husband has all the charm, wit and self possession of a used teabag.
I've a good mind to write a blues song based on the gloomier bits of Psalm 31.
