Saw Mission Impossible, Ghost Protocol last week. For me, the best of the series, and that's from someone who actually worked on MI2. I have been hearing nothing but positive reviews from friends and co-workers. Will have to check this out. I watched Fright Night (the 2011 release). I really enjoyed it. Was concerned there would be a focus on gory scenes and discovered I didn't really have to hide behind my hand. If Colin Farrell was my neighbour I'd be pretty darn happy. I'd let the whole 'vampire thing' slide. I am gonna check out Fright Night and will let you know what I thought. I have heard good things.

By the way, did you end up seeing The Fountain?

One question though, what is the fucking point of rereleasing Titanic in 3D? It sucked hard enough as originally intended. Yes, once they hit the big 'ol chunk of ice and chaos ensues the movie is entertaining (minus the terrible shit called a plot that keeps getting in the way) but the 90 minutes of extreme torture and terrible writing that leads up to that point is unbearable. Seeing as (shit, was about to say next year and I forgot it's already 2012!) this year marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking I imagine that factors in. It's a decent movie to watch every once in a while. If the movie had solely focused on the sinking I don't think it would have been much of a movie, hence the love story being a huge chunk of the film. I have an interest in all things Titanic so I hope they'll be running a ton of documentaries around April. And back to the topic, I watched Caddyshack today. He's a Cinderella Man this man a real Cinderella boy.

Caught the last 40 mins of The Predator last night.
If you ever get the chance to watch this with DTS sound on a big plasma screen and home entertainment system sub woofer and the whole box and dice it's amazing.
The scene where the predator takes his mask off still does it to this day to me.
Your one ugly mother fuc.....

Caught the sequel to the original 1967 In the Heat of the Night movie, They Call Me Mister Tibbs! on some cable channel. It's uh...not as good. (And geez, why did they make Tibbs into such a child-beatin' asshole?)

Rebel Without A Cause.
Am embarrassed to admit that before last night I had never seen a James Dean movie. I was so very impressed by the film.
Need to track down Giant and East of Eden.
Going slightly off topic for a moment here, his death saddens me every time I think about it. For such a young life to be cut short is terrible. I'm watching a bunch of random clips/documentary pieces on youtube at the moment.
He had such talent and a presence about him. Even now, the guy still oozes sex appeal.

I will be seeing Breaking Dawn as well - my wife loves Twilight (the books more than the movies). Will I be in for a treat? I think you may fall asleep. In all seriousness, if you've sat through the other films I can say this is better. You'll probably enjoy the second half more than anything. And a tip for you and your wife, wait until some of the credits have rolled. So my wife and I finally saw Twilight Breaking Dawn and we both thought it was terrible. I mean all the movies are bad, but even she had to agree that this was the worst. Beyond purposes of making money, she can't understand why they had to split Breaking Dawn into two parts. Per the books, she said not much else really goes on. They are really streching things needlessly.

A bunch of stuff on cable with the girlfriend that I'd seen before, but not in a long time:
Casino - Great flick, what's to be said?
The Dark Half - I liked this more years ago, but it's still a pretty underrated entry in the "movies based on Stephen King books" genre. (And one of the few that sticks pretty much to the book without adding or removing a bunch of stuff.)
Don't Tell Mom, The Babysitter's Dead - Stupid but still fun enough. Always thought of this as the last of the '80s-style kids' comedies, when the kids in the movies were still able to act like kids actually do - namely cuss, disdain authority and make stupid sex jokes. (Added bonus, Christina Applegate was still smokin' hot.)

I don't think one movie would have sufficiently covered things. At the same time, I understand part of it is a ploy to get more money from the public. I liked it. Hopefully part two will now allowed to be a bit more 'adult'. I actually dislike Breaking Dawn, the book. It shouldn't have been written IMO.

I haven't read the book, so I am just saying what my wife said - she said they streched out some things too much in the movie, that could have been shortened to cover the entire book in say a 2 and half hour movie. But of course we all know their motive for two films.

Continuing on my James Dean quest, I tracked down Giant at my favourite store and watched it last night.
I enjoyed it, despite the fact I feel the length of the movie was too long for my liking. Great cast - what can you say about someone like Elizabeth Taylor that hasn't already been said?
And young James - his role was small, but he sure did make an impact.
It may be strange to swoon over a man who has been dead for almost 57 years but Christ he is hot, hot, hot.

Watched Snowtown this morning. Based on the Snowtown murders that happened in Adelaide, Australia in the 90s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowtown_murdersGreat film; disturbing, confronting and saddening at the same time. Still trying to track down East Of Eden to watch. My hunt continues tomorrow.

The Buddy Holly Story (1978) - Watched with the girlfriend the other night since nothing else was on. Amusing because she'd never seen Gary Busey in his pre-insanity days before and was struck at how good he was in the role (and also didn't even recognize him at first).
Namath (2012) - HBO documentary about Joe Namath that I somehow got sucked into even though I don't give a shit about football or Namath. Fairly entertaining watch, though.
Skezag - Caught this on the Documentary Channel last night and can't scrape up much of any information about it. IMDB's got nothing and says it was released in 1970, though the version I saw had a prologue that followed up on the lives of the subjects. Basically just a couple hippie filmmakers decided to get high with a young black Vietnam vet they met on the streets and let the cameras roll on him and his heroin dealers/friends. Not much really happens, but you can't turn yourself away from the screen.

I enjoy being stuck in the past. He's on my list of gentlemen that make me giddy. ;D Wolfman and I sat there dribbling over him a little in the Random Chat thread. ;D The guy was talented, just a bonus he was smoking hot.

It's not great by any stretch - pretty whitewashed and definitely a bit fictionalized - but it's entertaining enough to be worth watching. Busey gives a surprisingly-good performance and I think he even played and sang all the songs himself.

Another weekend with the girlfriend means another weekend of watching whatever seems tolerable on the satellite movie channels...
Poltergeist III (1988) - Boy, this one isn't very good, is it? Hadn't seen it since I was a kid and even then I remembered thinking it was kinda stupid. Turns out I was right. I know the ending had to be reshot due to Heather Rourke's death during production but I wonder what the original concept was. As it stands, the movie doesn't really end so much as it just kinda stops.
The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) - Very compelling documentary about the singer/songwriter. I was familiar with the guy, but never knew his story, and it's definitely a doozy. Watching him devolve from a promising-if-somewhat-troubled, fairly handsome guy into a complete mental case is occasionally a little disturbing, but never less than fascinating. By the end, he seems to be slowly coming back around a little bit, but it makes you wonder what's going to happen to him when his elderly parents (who have to take full-time care of him now) die.
As Good As It Gets (1997) - Another one I hadn't seen in years, but it holds up for what it is. And I had forgotten how damn long the thing is.
